I'm trying to hold back the tears, I had to put my puppy to sleep ; (

Just a couple of weeks ago we were celebrating the fact that my baby had learned to go potty and was finally answering to his name. I'm beginning to think I have the worst luck in the world. A little over five weeks ago I put a puppy on lay away, it was a spur of the moment kind of thing so I had to prepare my home to welcome the puppy first. When I went to pick up Lady she had fallen ill, this was during Holy week so the pet shop owners didn't have the chance to take her to a vet since they were all on vacation. She died the next Monday. When I went to the store they said they would either give me my money back, or I could wait for them to get me another cocker spaniel, instead I chose the cutest thing they had there, he was crying for my attention so he won me over, love at first bark, hehe.

Two weeks ago my puppy's blood sugar dropped and I almost lost him, again it was a long weekend so I went to the pet shop and they were really sweet and helped him to the point that he was perfectly fine when I took him home. When the first episode happened we were following a treatment for hypoglycemia and it made me kinda mad that after caring so well for him, giving him his vitamins and all he still got sick. Yesterday he had another episode and I took him to the vet, to another one since I was kinda mad at the first one for not noticing something was very wrong. Yesterday's visit was 116 dollars which I didn't have and my mom payed for with her credit card. It seemed he was having liver problems also and wasn't processing proteins. Today I was told that they needed to do more tests on him, that he wasn't better at all and that the tests were going to cost me 176 dolars and surgery later on 800 dollars. I swear if I had the money I would have given them all of it but I don't have one cent and all I have is a crappy part time job. I'm sooo angry right now, everything's about money! Although he was here for a short time he was like my baby, my mom was kinda jealous of me,hehe, cause she spent more time with Lucky since I go to school and work and when called upon he always came to me instead of her. This is all so unfair, I wanted a puppy all my life and when I finally get the chance to get one I don't lose 1 but 2!

Sorry for the long post, I really needed to vent.

Date: 5/22/2003 3:19:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 60685    Thanks guys, I'm not looking into getting a new dog, at least not for now. So far we were looking for small dogs cause we need to finish fencing the backyard so we really didn't have the space for a big one. My mom is expecting some money so when she gets it we are going to finish fencing and then we'll get a big dog, probably a retriever. Funny thing, there was a retriever at the vet yesterday also named Lucky.

Date: 5/22/2003 5:56:00 PM  From Authorid: 19092    I'm sorry for your loss. Dogs are so special to us. Don't give up, third time will be different. I lost two pups several years ago to Parvo. It's so hard...I now have three healthy, loving and playful dogs. They truly are our best friends...
Date: 5/22/2003 9:26:00 PM  From Authorid: 15070    swwetheart, I am so sorry for your loss. I put my dog to sleep 20 years ago, an I STILL dream about him! He lived to the ripe old age of 14 years, and I adored him. Now, here is what I am thinking. Instead of a pedigree (papered) dog, go to the animal shelter. Hear me out! Pound puppies, are so greatful for adoption, they seem to "know" how close they came to The Other Side. They have full-bloods & mixed-dogs, of ALL sizes. A mixed-breed dog gets the best of both parents and is generally healthier & better natured than Full-bloods. I know, I have owed both. If you want a full blooded dog, have your Mom call the rescue of whatever breed you like. For example: greyhound rescure, cocker spanial rescue, the number(s) are in the book, or the Vet should hae them. Do not buy from a pet store. Their puppies are mass breed at puppy mills. Check the newspaper. There are a lot of private breeders around. But please, except my love at the loss of your baby. Just remember, the time they were with you, they knew love & happiness. ~Peace~
Date: 5/22/2003 11:48:00 PM  From Authorid: 53909    I'm so sorry to hear about that. This saddens me because I'm a big animal lover and it would of just killed me if I were in the same position.
Date: 5/23/2003 5:41:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 60685    Thanks guys for your kind and beautiful words, they've helped a lot. At least I know he's not suffering anymore. This morning was kinda hard though, I was used to hearing him barking in the morning for me (sigh).
Date: 5/23/2003 1:17:00 PM  From Authorid: 39887    I am so sorry, that is so sad.
