I sent it to my publisher And here's what I got back. "You must be a beginner; There a rule you need to learn If you wish to become published And be read by everyone. So please omit the usage Of the terrible pronoun, 'that.' Then you may return your manuscript, When it's in the right format." Wishing to meet my schedule, Hoping to cut the fat, I used my word processor To remove all use of 'that.' Now I was left with a poem It's new title is THIS. . . It makes no sense to read it If I leave it as it is. But I sent it to my publisher, With crossed fingers and crossed toes, I wondered if they would publish now, Something only heaven knows. Today I got a letter And this is how it rendered "We gladly accept your poem Now that the grammar's mended."
