Hmm, good question. I personally think you did the right thing, by letting the dog die naturally. However, I have mixed feelings on this. God is in every thing. And I would hate to see an animal suffer, I believe that animals don't understand pain like we do, but they still hurt and if putting them to sleep helps them not suffer anymore, I can't see how God would be mad. LOL@ about taking your dad out back. I know what you mean. I'm kinda curious as to what others say. Good post! How do you know your other dog "will be meeting him" next may? Has the dog already set a date? lol Sorry to hear about losing your dog tho. That is a long time to have an animal. My dog died a couple of weeks ago, so I know that pain you must feel. God Bless |

when humans are in pain we medicate them and allow them some peace in their final hours. Did you do this for your dog? If not then I think you made him suffer needlessly for your own self. (you wanted a few more months with him) what good did it do him to be alive and in pain with no relieve. If you had medicated him and allowed him the dignity and love that you felt for him to come through then I think you did the right thing otherwise not. |

I'm kind of with you on this one. I couldn't take any of my animals and have them put to sleep. I always figured they'd rather be at home in a familiar place, with familiar people, being surrounded by peole who love them and care for them. Rather than to be taken to a vet's office where they don't like to be anyway, put on a cold sterile table and have a doctor they don't like sticking a needle in them. My dog lived to be 16 years old she was blind, deaf and had no teeth. My mother wanted to take her to "put her down" a full year before she died but I used the same line you used above about having her put down when she got too old, lol. My dog was not in any pain other than a little arthritus (which she had medicine for) she just required a little more attention from us. ~Gabrielle~ |

Magoo , I gave him chidrens tylenol always . I gave him antibiotics and vitamins . I walk my dogs everyday and chose to leave him . He NEVER wanted to stay ! He walked everyday with me until the day he died . He could only walk halfway , but i would carry him the rest of the way home in my arms . He told me he was going when he refused to eat his last day on Earth . Razzy aka |

I am happy to hear that, you have more compassion then alot of people in your situation. I agree with keeping your dog around as long as he wasn't in pain and wanted to be with you. |

well Raz, it depends if your dog was suffering and in pain...I mean of you wouldnt take your dad out and shoot him but he would go into hospital and be kept out of pain, but for animals I think suffering for them is worse...yes, I would euthanize any of my pets if I thought they were suffering, they cant tell you how much pain they are in can they???I love my animals and no way would I let them suffer... |

My dog survived a bout with parvo as a puppy . He survived being hit bad by a car . He also survied toxic shock syndrome . The vet wanted him immediately euthanized coz he was 90 percent dead . I said no , took him home and he survived . I was able to enjoy my dog for 4 more years . I was always looking for clues and signs on what to do . His last day on earth , he told me with his eyes that was it , skipped dinner , and then went to Heaven . He visited me in a dream and is extremely happy where he is at . He gave me a last goodye .
