When I was in sixth grade I did something really stupid. My bus always got to the school early so I would have around 20 minutes to mess around with my friends. One day we found the copper edging of a ruler on the floor. One of my friends picked it up and started playing with it. He then took it and stuck one end into the light socket. Because he didnt complete a circuit he didnt get zapped. Well then he dared me to do it. Not knowing that I was only supposed to put 1 end in I went up and slammed both ends into the socket. Instantly sparks started shooting out of the socket and the copper piece began to glow bright orange. In the same amount of time this was happening ( a second or two ) every other person in the classroom managed to sit back in there seats acting like they didnt know what was going on. After the copper sparked a little more its melted onto the carpet instantly catching the carpet on fire. In seeing this I panicked and while saying the profane version of "Oh poop!!" I stomped it out. Soon the whole wing of the school smelled of burned carpet. Teachers came in to find out what happened. Many of them repeatively told me how stupid I was (which I was :) ). Luckily I never got in trouble since technically there is no rule which says you cant put stuff into a light socket. I went back my senior year to see if the burn mark was still there and sure enough my "mark" was still there.
