I've heard about the ear stretching thing, they pierce the ear then like put this HUGE earing in it, and leave it in for a while and it stretches it huge.. It's DISGUSTING. I never heard of them cutting off half of their tounge, but rather splitting it down the middle. I dont find either the tounge splitting or plugs in the ears attractive, but to each their own!  |

One day they had a debate about this on the McLaughlin group. I thought it was funny to see John McLaughlin, Elanor Cleft (the annoying democrat), and that mafia looking guy debate out whether it was a fashion trend or self mutalation. I personally feel that cutting your tongue in half is self mutalation. Maybe even chance for a little "Darwinism" to come in here, because cutting your tongue in half can lead to severe infection and in some cases bleeding to death.  |

i've seen many people with thier lobes streched.. i think it looks horrid and when you look 10 years in the future what are they gonna do have tennisball sized lobes hanging down on thier shoulders(it brings a whole new meaning to that kids song "do your ears hang low, can you tie them in a bow....."*L*) and as for tongue splitting it's horrible!!  |

Mainly the 'trends' came from Africa and India and ended up over here..in other countries it's a part of their tribes and traditions. Altho it does looks painful. I would never do either one..but whatever floats your boat! lol  |

lol Body modification can be dated back to the Ancient Egyptians, but its getting really popular. Tounge splitting is done in America too lol, its not dangerous, unless done improperly, and has nothing to do with cults. Some people do it for religious reasons, because they like how it looks, or feels, and some do it for the snake forked tounge look.. ear stretching(along with a few other piercings) aren't too bad, I dont see much a point, but of others like them, they donty make too "special"jewelry, just jewelry for certain gauges( ring sizes) And believe me, they get ALOT bigger than I dime lol. Its not too weird, and like Isaid, its not very new at all.if you want some more info on this, I can give you a very informative link  |
