Personally speaking, I do not care what anyone's personal beliefs are; as we all are certainly entitled and protected by the Constitution to do so; and I would not ever have any complaints or anything IF everyone would know and accept these basic rights. Jerry Falwell says things like "What we have to do is take control of our society, and Jesus will prevail!" They see themselves as leading the fulfillment of the Biblically prophesied "Army of God" which will be brought together to destroy sinners and unbelievers in the period preceding Armageddon. They believe tolerance of other views is "un-christian". There are many organizations that have large membership, organized, and financed, who are working 24/7 to integrate their brand and rule by the Majority. The Promise Keepers is one, and Jerry Falwell is a firm supporter and memeber. There is The Coalition on Rival (COR), religious reconstructionists. Here is a quote from a leader with the COR: "It is up to us, as protectors and providers of our families, to rescue our children from a culture that would down them in tolerance. Just let a wave of intolernace wash over you; I want you to let a wave of hatred wash over you. Yes, hate is good....our goal is a Christian nation! We have a Biblical DUTY! We are called by God, to conquer this country. We don't want equal time. We don't want pluralism".  |

Cath, you got my post!! You should be allowed YOUR beliefs, or lack thereof, just like everyone should!! If you believe something and decide to write about it, then NO ONE should be rude to you simply because they disagree with you! :) You and I have talked about our differences of beliefs and never once have we stepped on each other's toes, :) THAT is the way I wish it all was here... you and I are on different ends of the spectrum but yet we both respect each other, we respect each others beliefs and we deeply care about each other... HOW MUCH BETTER CAN IT BE THAN THAT??? :):) My case in point is that no matter WHAT we disagree or agree with, this is a website and we should be kind and tolerant of others opinions and behaviors. I am sure that all of you out there has seen ADULTS attack CHILDREN here because of disagreeing, sad huh? They never took the time to see that replies come from young ones, just ready to POUNCE.. now to me that just isnt right, ya know? Yep, we all know that "situations" can change the mood of a post dramatically.. NO ONE should be abused for going on a post or making a post, but we all have seen that happen. NO ONE has the right to be MEAN On here and that is what I am trying to get at. I read a post where there were people attacking others because of disagreeing and it just didnt make either side right because both sides got ANGRY, and when the ANGER sets in the EARS tend to close as well as the MIND. I KNOW for a fact that I have been GUILTY of doing this too, but the last time I decided not to come on here, I learned a lot. Sitting OFFLINE reading stuff really is a great teacher to me!!! I think that by and large that USM is a tolerant place... for the most part, and sometimes when tempers flare .. (on the outside looking in) they wouldnt flare so much if the SAME people were saying the SAME Things to each others face... it is the lack of eye contact and facial expressions that make people MISUNDERSTAND the way things are said anyway... and then of course, there are some who LOVE pouncing anyway, they lay in WAIT for someone they dont like to come in and say something so it gives them an EXCUSE to pounce... I try to practice tolerance at all times. What I cannot tolerate though is someone who tries to force their beliefs onto me. When that happens, I do get very defensive. I do not believe that any belief holds credence over another, and that it is wrong for people to hold a set of standards based on their belief over others. I was told once that everyone has their own beleifs, and that is what makes each person who they are. To try to change another's beleifs to suit our own belief is to try and change the person to be more like us. If this is done, then you no longer have an individual person.  |

Every so often, I do have times when I look back and wish I would have thought more though Gail, but sometimes, sometimes the rules of every day life and common sense must be said. I try as much as possible for tolerance, and know that usually I'm doing the best I can. I love my job for instance, I really do! And I do the best I can to help EVERYONE and I mean everyone, I have every color, every culture and people who confide all kinds of life experiences with me. I believe that, all those people deserve my care, my understanding, my compassion. But it isn't fake. I do care, very much and so many have different lifestles, different beliefs that I do, I don't judge them. I can honestly feel the pain and hurt, but I can also "sense" when someone is dishonest, being deceptive, and "just plain mean". Mostly I let it go, "letting go" is easier than raising my blood pressure, and at my age, I have to remember that! LOL. But sometimes, I can and will speak out, I try to be sensitive to others, their thoughts and opinions, same as I would "on the job", but again, sometimes I have to just say something! Of course, being HUMAN we all have bad days... but on the whole, if I stop, think and try to understand what someone is saying to me, I do much much better in my replies to them.. lol, Of course, I think everyone here has seen me go over the top myself.. but I sincerely DO try, like you, to be patient and tolerant of other USMers, and I do try so hard to NOT be ugly, but sometimes I am a complete failure!!! This post was spawned by some actions I witnessed being unfolded on a post while I was offline on USM.. Although I didnt reply to the post, I SAW the actions and was APPALLED at how it was handled and I applauded when it finally went *POOF*... The one post that started this post had such a major impact on me that I am looking at things in a different light, and hopefully I will be a better person because of this other persons total lack of caring, patience, and tolerance of others. |

I am nearly 50 years old and I dont need anyone feeding me THEIR life experience ideas, buttttt I always try to keep an open mind to see if I can learn something from someone else's opinions. Doesnt mean they change my mind, but it DOES mean that if they are learned enough and know more than I do, I listen. But when someone wants to JUDGE me, or my friends because of their closed-minded mean ways, then yes, I get angry and I get defensive too... I am just trying to form a tolerance with people who are receptive.. I am not positive of which one, but I too saw more than one that caused me to "take some time" and I did respond to one, just to let it be known that I had seen and knew what was said. BUT USM is and has been, for me, a place I stay put, mainly because DISRESPECT is not tolerated here. And we all know, we know, those who constantly bend and try to change the rules. I don't frequent many forums, not because I'm afraid or lack the understanding to make reasonable comments of give an educated opinion, but because I will not be drawn into that hard lined behavior and thinking that I'm always right. Name calling, bashing, total intolerance just isn't for me. It isn't necessary FOR me. |

That is why I take up for the Admins the way I do.. because they DO keep our little community clean, they keep the abuse down here much better than any Cop Shop of any City in USA... if ya know what I mean. I do NOT mind deletions if it saves peoples feelings and if it keeps the site G-Rated. I do not mind them paving the way for us to have this Grand Land to be in while on the internet. I have spent literally thousands of hours here on USM, safe from the outside world... connected with people I LOVE and a place where my kids/grandkids can come to and be "SAFE" because of the way G and G run it and the way the Admins run it.. . So what something gets deleted that maybe could have stayed, but bottom line is at least we are safe.. :) |

Tolerance is usually one sided, one person tolerates the others beliefs and ideas and the other demands tolerance but doesn't reciprocate. Very rarely do you ever find two people on opposite sides that both tolerate the other's ideas and opinions. |
