awwwwwwwwww sorry this happened to you, at least YOU admit you were wrong.....when i was in college a lab assistant would use her hubands car (which had handicap tags on it because he has some sort of back problems) in order to park in those spaces...it made me madder than hades. |

jeez! I mean, you shouldn't ahve parked there, BUT there were like 25 spaces and i doubt 25 ppl would need a parking spot! jeez...sometimes ppl are so unfair! luv, |

Wow, that seems kind of steep for the first offense. My hubby is always trying to get me to park in them when the stores aren't busy, but this is exactly why I don't. Just like you I would be the one that gets caught and gets an example made out of me! |

Sure, I was WRONG. It was a stupid misjudgement; and I have seen people parked in handicapped parking spots all the time and when the lot is jam packed, and only a few handicapped spaces, and that ticks me off. I just figured with all those spaces, and hardly anyone around, that the odds of even 1 or 2 people needing to park in all those spaces, within a few minutes, was very slim. Dumb ; just plain lapse in ye ole noodle there; I certainly was not a "Thinker" today. :( |

ouch! That sucks. I think there is a special place in heck for people who willingly and repeatedly misuse handicapped spaces though... When my dad was still alive and in a wheelchair at times we would see perfectly able-bodied people parking there, and have to use regular spaces, then they would give us some lame-brained excuse... "Oh I have _______" whatever... |

Gentel Breeze, I could see something like $50 , or $60 bucks, but....$95.00 !?? I could not believe my eyes when I read the back of the ticket and the officer had circled the "Parking in Handicapped-----$95.00". I could see that for a speeding violation, or parking in a Fire Lane, or something like this....but....a 1st time offense....on an almost empty parking lot, the size of a football field.....NO. |

You're absolutely right, Kethria, and had the circumstances not been as I have described, I would never, ever, have done that....ever. My luck stinks though. I remember a few times in my life (just minor stuff) where I'd observe people getting away with stuff all the time; and if I ever even TRIED anything....wham! Busted on the first attempt. |

sometimes i think there are too many handycapp spots at some lots...when more then 25% of the lot is handycap something isn't right... don't get me wrong i think the handycap spot is a good thing(they tend to be wider what is good) it's just when there is an extreme amount.. perosnally i think mor eplaces should make some into "expectant mother"/"mother with baby" parking spots... i think they are a good proper idea and there should be more of those |

medusa the walmart has a few and recently(within th epast year) a few of hte grocery stores put them in... it's a good thing because when your dealing with very young children(i may not have one myself but i know of many who do) it's such a struggle with the car seats and buggies and groceries ontop of it.... they deserve a close spot that is a little wider then most spots to help open doors and such |

Where I live, the city has volunteers that are armed with a polaroid, and if they see you in a handicap spot, they just take a pic of your car.. and you are mailed the ticket. I think it's either a hundred, or a hundred and fifty dollar fine. |

$150.00 ! *falls off chair* that makes me feel just a tad bit *cough* b-b-better. I told my mom about it last night. *she's 86* he he he...she's so funny; she thinks cops are the one's who decide what the amount of the fines will be; plus she does not drive a car, nor has she ever. It was cute; my little momma, reaming out the cop for the $95.00 charge. *grin* :p |

Sounds like NC. 150 ids the fine if you do not have proper plates, sticker or valid ID to go with the sticker ie (liscence that is on the sticker). And yes able bodied people woulod park and put a sticker that was stolen in the window up and walk into a store. I have seen cars towed due to this. At a local meat packing plant there used to be around 200 handicapped persons parked outside in the closest parking lot. there were only ten parking spots marked and defined. the other parking lots you had to walk 1/2 mile to a mile to get there. after the legaliteis and towings and all they finally moved the handicapped parking zones down to the end of a walkway (1/4 mile away) outside of the supervisors parking lot. Then they started towing illegal cars. The only people that can now leaglly park in the supervisors parking lots with a handcap sticker are two gals and a guy that all three are in a wheelchair and strictley confined. They have thier stickers and thier placards as well. I think it is so funny when I drive by and used to see cars being towed for illegal parkings. But you were willing to admit to what you did wrong. No probs there and I can see your point of the arguement. but blatant offenders like the ones mentioned above need to be charged. |
