$95.00 Parking violation Ticket.... Yikes!

  Author:  24924  Category:(Interesting) Created:(7/12/2003 2:15:00 PM)
This post has been Viewed (705 times)

I ran out to pick up just a couple of items, and when I pulled into the parking lot of this store, I saw that it was virtually empty. I pulled in several spaces over from the store. There were some 25 Handicapped parking spaces, back to back, and none were occupied. It is 105 degrees here today, and I knew I would be in the store for less than 5 minutes so I pulled in and quickly ran in the store. When I came back out, a cop was standing by my car, writing a ticket.

I explained that I had never done such a thing, nor would I ever, had the parking lot been busy, filled up, or there were only a few Handicapped spaces at that; but the officer just handed me the ticket.

Like I said: I've never done such a thing, and this huge lot was virtually empty, and there were close to 25 Handicapped spaces; and what are the odds that within that 5 minute span, 25 people would need to park in those spaces?

Anyway, DO NOT EVEN TRY to do what I did. I know I won't ever again.

$95.00 for such a stupid misjudgement!

How it changed my life:

I learned!

Date: 7/12/2003 2:25:00 PM  From Authorid: 3688    awwwwwwwwww sorry this happened to you, at least YOU admit you were wrong.....when i was in college a lab assistant would use her hubands car (which had handicap tags on it because he has some sort of back problems) in order to park in those spaces...it made me madder than hades.
Date: 7/12/2003 2:34:00 PM  From Authorid: 61811    jeez! I mean, you shouldn't ahve parked there, BUT there were like 25 spaces and i doubt 25 ppl would need a parking spot! jeez...sometimes ppl are so unfair! luv,
Date: 7/12/2003 2:39:00 PM  From Authorid: 53013    Wow, that seems kind of steep for the first offense. My hubby is always trying to get me to park in them when the stores aren't busy, but this is exactly why I don't. Just like you I would be the one that gets caught and gets an example made out of me!
Date: 7/12/2003 2:41:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 24924    Sure, I was WRONG. It was a stupid misjudgement; and I have seen people parked in handicapped parking spots all the time and when the lot is jam packed, and only a few handicapped spaces, and that ticks me off. I just figured with all those spaces, and hardly anyone around, that the odds of even 1 or 2 people needing to park in all those spaces, within a few minutes, was very slim. Dumb ; just plain lapse in ye ole noodle there; I certainly was not a "Thinker" today. :(
Date: 7/12/2003 2:44:00 PM  From Authorid: 18527    ouch! That sucks. I think there is a special place in heck for people who willingly and repeatedly misuse handicapped spaces though... When my dad was still alive and in a wheelchair at times we would see perfectly able-bodied people parking there, and have to use regular spaces, then they would give us some lame-brained excuse... "Oh I have _______" whatever...
Date: 7/12/2003 2:46:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 24924    Gentel Breeze, I could see something like $50 , or $60 bucks, but....$95.00 !?? I could not believe my eyes when I read the back of the ticket and the officer had circled the "Parking in Handicapped-----$95.00". I could see that for a speeding violation, or parking in a Fire Lane, or something like this....but....a 1st time offense....on an almost empty parking lot, the size of a football field.....NO.
Date: 7/12/2003 2:49:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 24924    You're absolutely right, Kethria, and had the circumstances not been as I have described, I would never, ever, have done that....ever. My luck stinks though. I remember a few times in my life (just minor stuff) where I'd observe people getting away with stuff all the time; and if I ever even TRIED anything....wham! Busted on the first attempt.
Date: 7/12/2003 4:17:00 PM  From Authorid: 53052    sometimes i think there are too many handycapp spots at some lots...when more then 25% of the lot is handycap something isn't right... don't get me wrong i think the handycap spot is a good thing(they tend to be wider what is good) it's just when there is an extreme amount.. perosnally i think mor eplaces should make some into "expectant mother"/"mother with baby" parking spots... i think they are a good proper idea and there should be more of those
Date: 7/12/2003 4:30:00 PM  From Authorid: 49689    Unfortunatley you learned too late!!!!! Nest time I DO hope you will use better judgement!!!!!
Date: 7/12/2003 5:02:00 PM  From Authorid: 44321    Midnightly one store here that I know of has a few expectant moms/moms with toddlers parking spots :)
Date: 7/12/2003 5:02:00 PM  From Authorid: 44321    An expensive lesson to learn, and yet the people that really do abuse the spots never get caught!
Date: 7/12/2003 5:43:00 PM  From Authorid: 53052    medusa the walmart has a few and recently(within th epast year) a few of hte grocery stores put them in... it's a good thing because when your dealing with very young children(i may not have one myself but i know of many who do) it's such a struggle with the car seats and buggies and groceries ontop of it.... they deserve a close spot that is a little wider then most spots to help open doors and such
Date: 7/12/2003 6:36:00 PM  From Authorid: 51456    wow! i would ahf exploded and threw alll my groceries at that cop.. never knew some people could be that arrogant.. agreeing with u lots :D natasa HUGZ&KISSEZ*
Date: 7/12/2003 9:43:00 PM  From Authorid: 28193    Where I live, the city has volunteers that are armed with a polaroid, and if they see you in a handicap spot, they just take a pic of your car.. and you are mailed the ticket. I think it's either a hundred, or a hundred and fifty dollar fine.
Date: 7/12/2003 10:45:00 PM  From Authorid: 51456    whoa golden taxi no ay that a whoole lot !

Date: 7/13/2003 3:52:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 24924    $150.00 ! *falls off chair* that makes me feel just a tad bit *cough* b-b-better. I told my mom about it last night. *she's 86* he he he...she's so funny; she thinks cops are the one's who decide what the amount of the fines will be; plus she does not drive a car, nor has she ever. It was cute; my little momma, reaming out the cop for the $95.00 charge. *grin* :p
Date: 7/14/2003 8:18:00 AM  From Authorid: 54570    Sounds like NC. 150 ids the fine if you do not have proper plates, sticker or valid ID to go with the sticker ie (liscence that is on the sticker). And yes able bodied people woulod park and put a sticker that was stolen in the window up and walk into a store. I have seen cars towed due to this. At a local meat packing plant there used to be around 200 handicapped persons parked outside in the closest parking lot. there were only ten parking spots marked and defined. the other parking lots you had to walk 1/2 mile to a mile to get there. after the legaliteis and towings and all they finally moved the handicapped parking zones down to the end of a walkway (1/4 mile away) outside of the supervisors parking lot. Then they started towing illegal cars. The only people that can now leaglly park in the supervisors parking lots with a handcap sticker are two gals and a guy that all three are in a wheelchair and strictley confined. They have thier stickers and thier placards as well. I think it is so funny when I drive by and used to see cars being towed for illegal parkings. But you were willing to admit to what you did wrong. No probs there and I can see your point of the arguement. but blatant offenders like the ones mentioned above need to be charged.

Date: 11/23/2005 1:20:00 PM  From Authorid: 23075    here it is a 300 dollar fine.
Date: 11/23/2005 1:25:00 PM  From Authorid: 16376    What you did was wrong but I think thats a rather harsh fine.
