In the fourth grade I heard a story about a building about 1/2 a mile away from my house. The story was about a friend of mine's mom and her friend when they were little. The building is now the Y, but It wasn't back then. The 2 girls were playing fetch with one girls dog. The dog was named buddy and was a black scottish terrier. One time, they threw the ball next to a near-by sewer. The waited for the dog to bring it back but he never did. The owner called for him and he still didn't come. Finally, the little girl went over there, leaving the other girl behind. The girl didn't come back for a while and suddenly, the other girl heard a scream. She quickly ran over and saw the bodies of the other girl and her dog bloody and chopped up. The reason for this is said to be that a long long long time ago, a man called Red Barron was flying an airplane and crashed where that sewer now is. He was said to be crazy and demented. Some people believe that it was his ghost that killed the little girl and her dog. He is also believed to haunt a trail heading to the Y. People who had never heard that story would always say to never go on that trail alone. Everyone has a bad feeling about that trail. Now, I would not have believed this story, normally, but when I was going in the 2nd grade, I was going to daycare at the Y and we were playing in the field. I saw a little black dog run up to me. I pet it and talked to it. Then I heard a little girl calling "Buddy" and I told the dog to run in the direction that the voice was calling from. The dog instead, ran towards the sewer. I never thought twice about it before I heard this story. It was a cute dog. How it changed my life:It just makes me wonder about that girl and dog whenever I think about it. It also makes me wonder why they would reveal themselves to me of all people!
