A few questions...hyper

hiya guys

well, i am in a 'mgmt' position at work. i like it, i have a blast with it. i'd like to ask yall a few questions...

okay first off, if you're suporvisor, should you or shouldn't you know how to run and do everything where you work? (i.e. make food, register)

secondly, should you put someone else in charge of your responsibilties as suporvisor? such as, breaks, telling them what not to do, and what to do. I mean if you're a suporvisor, you shouldn't be afraid to take authority and be in charge..

thirdly, if you work with food, should you or shouldn't you wear a hair net/hat??

okay now why i'm asking this is, because i just recently got a mgmt position, and the head suporvisor knows diddely squat about any of it. i trained her on everything so she knows what to do, but she doesn't know how to say no to people, she doesn't know how to change stuff or refund or any of those things.

instead of being a suporvisor she trys to be everyones friends. she lets people get away with a lot of things that they shouldn't. she's lazy, doesn't work. she gives her family free stuff all of the time. she's afraid to do any 'dirty work' such as ordering people to do stuff, she pins it off on me. she wont tell them that's wrong, or to stop. She doesn't wear a hair net or a hat, yet we find hair in all of the food.

I think her being suporvisor she needs to take charge, and not pin the responsibility off on a lower authority/power...

So we've told our BIG bosses, but i don't think they've said much more to her. Me and the other suporvisor have told them, they wont listen, now my co-workers are complaining, and are going to the big bosses about it. Hopefully she'll shape up, or ship out...

What do yall think? Sorry this is long, it's about the first actual post i've done!

That is disgusting, to find hairs in food... I would have a serious discussion with her on that.. and yes, if you are in a higher up position, you should be able to handle every situation at work. And if you are a supervisor, you should take responsability yourself, since that is a position of authority, unfortunatly with territory , disipines, and making sure things are running smoothly are part of the job, can't always be the "Good" guy in all things.. I hope this girl.. soon realizes that.
Date: 7/27/2003 10:05:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 5252    my lovely Auntie!! I agree with you so much. I know she wouldn't want hair in her food, so why take the chance to let it happen to someone elses? This lady hasn't worked in suporvisor position before, so she doesn't know all the ropes or whatever. But neither have I this is what my third job maybe, and i'm a better suporvisor than she is!! How does that work out?? All of the girls i work with, said they'll come back next year with me, if she isn't there. Now i think my big bosses would rather have to girls come back to one, am i right? She trys to be your friend, she isn't good with authority, and she isn't good with people for that matter, so what's left?
Date: 7/27/2003 10:22:00 PM  From Authorid: 53900    Yea I think I would keep complaining about it...maybe go directly to her and broach teh subject gently and let her know what you are thinking cause she should not be doing what she is....and ohhh just on a side note that is nasty that she does not wear a hair net...I dont like seeing people not wear their hair up and wear gloves when they are touching my food. YUCK:P
Date: 7/27/2003 10:26:00 PM  From Authorid: 42568    Sounds to me like she isn't right for the job.... i do half of my manager's work just because i'm better at it than her. she's a bad manager in my eyes but i can't do anything about it. complaining gets really irritating though, i should know, i'm the one all of my co-workers have been complaining about....
Date: 7/27/2003 10:26:00 PM  From Authorid: 53052    I think a management position should know how to do everything in the store.... unless they are NEW management where they still have to LEARN things(they were highered to be management they wern't promoted kinda thing) i think in a FOOD situation manager or NOT they should wear a hairnet it's a health issue not a stature issue, when it comes to breaks someone else could take the reins and take charge of it fine but when it comes to anything that needs approval like schedules they should be incharge of it
Date: 7/28/2003 8:17:00 AM  From Authorid: 28848    Yes, you should know how to do everything. Yes, you should wear hair nets and gloves when preparing food. And no, you should never pin your responsibilities on someone else.
