I don't think segregation is a good thing. Everyone just needs to learn how to accept and deal with each other... I don't know why people can't get over the whole thing... Gays and transgendered people have been around for centuries... |

actually I think that now they're in a concentrated area, it will be easier for homophobes to attack them...and it is kind of treating them like a disease...i think people should just accept people for who and what they are and be done with it...not seperate everyone |

Number one it's in my book the same as opening a school for All Blacks, All Whites, etc. Where is the great Hue and cry? Number two I'll wager that by the end of the first semester Cliques will form and someone is going to be bullied, someone is going to be left out, someone is going to cry "Unfair" and "Discrimination" and "I'm being victimized". Any takers? |

i have seen what kids do and how they harrass people who are different/gay so i think this is a REALLY good idea i think it should be more of a "private school" then a public school... but i have seen all things such as pre-schools refusing to accept children who have gay parents to the kids being tortured to the point of depression and suicide just for being who they are... |

i think it has some good like kids who are beaten, battered and abused by their peers for being gay or acting a lil feminine without even being openly gay, its just really sad that we as a society have to resort to something like this |

number 1, I am afraid that it will set these young people up for unrealisic expectations. number 2-it is segregation number 3-I can too easily see it being bombed, like the looney tunes who bomb abortion clinics. Sorry, it will not work |

They will probably end up getting made more fun of then they initially were. It's also not a good idea for their own safety, now the school can specifically be targeted by people who hate gays. And then they will probably cry "hate crime" everytime something negative happens towards the school. Lot's of school's get bomb threats, but when this school get's one, of course everyone is going to say it's because the kids at the school are gay. |

okay if the place is made up by these types of people then they are just distancing themselves from everyone else and making the problem worse. if it is by the government then it is segregation which I thought went out of your country in the 60's. |

hmmm im not sure about this one. this post makes me think and i love posts like that. we do have schools that are just for girls, boys, blacks, christians, etc.... but im not sure we should make one for sexuality. im sure the school would probably need some extra security ( on the outside of it) good post |

I think the idea is a good one for it gives the children a choice but I do not think it should be funded by the government, I feel it should be a private school. If they allow a school for gays because they get picked on then they need a school for fat kids, skinny kids, even kids with chicken pox.. sorry about that, the song just popped in my head. But really I do not think it is a good idea for it to be a public school. What they need to do is punish the bullies and not just say to them, "Now don't tease people" I mean really punish them even if it means expelling them from school. I feel for children who get picked on for I was a super skinny kid in school and I always got teased and beat up yet I have to admit it did help me to be the person I am today and to have a caring heart for the feelings of others. |

hehehe stormchaser, ,LETS all sing it now, hot dogs, oscarmeyer hot dogs, LOL LOL, your right the government should not fund it as if they do then they need to fund it for every group that is being discriminated against and that includes Christians, the KKK, witches, ect. The thing is things go wrong in life, and the bad thing and this goes for some christian schools to, the kids need to know that all is not rosey as when they enter the real world, they are in for a rude awakening. Sometime we just have to suck it up and live life. |

like everyone else, I see two sides to the debate... on one hand they may be getting more of an opportunity to LEARN without the sneers and jeers of peers lol didn't know I was a poet!! lol on the other hand, it may not be a representation of "real life" and they may have a rude awakening upon gradutaion... |

i think it is stupid. seriously, we have a school for the gay kids so they won't get made fun of. what's next, a seperate school for the nerds and geeks so they won't be made fun of? then there will be a school for the overweight kids so they won't be made fun of. why doesn't the schools get more involved in hading out some strict punishment for the kids who make fun of the other kids instead of worring so much about seperating them? i'm also starting to change my mind about school uniforms too. they should all have them. that would save a lot of parents a lot of cash and the kids that can't afford the "overpriced-name is everything- two hundred dollars for a pair of jeans" would feel so ashamed of their clothes. |

I don't see anything wrong with it myself. Its like a support group, only its school. I saw it on True Life on MTV and from what I can tell from that documentry, the kids love it. You have to look at it from their point of view. If you were getting contstantly harrassed, wouldn't you want to get out of that situation. In some places people are getting beaten to death because they're attracted the same gender. Its not fair! This school is their safe haven. They still experiance real life, they have to go outside of the walls of that school too. But I do agree it shouldn't be entirely government funded. It should be a semi-private school.. |
