The ghost of a dead laborer still haunts this traffic tunnel. 'Big John Henry' died from a stroke after an exhausting contest with a machine. In 1870, the two hundred pound black man took on a Burleigh steam powered drill to see who could drill more holes. Big John won but paid for it with his life.
