Never trust a Beautician with two inch nails.

I of course know this. Everyone knows this, right? I think every woman is born with this knowledge.

I went to a new beautician today and I got highlights and a haircut....a very short haircut for me. Much shorter than I'd intended though it doesn't look bad, but I haven't tried to do it myself, so I'll reserve judgment. Did I mention my highlights are VERY blonde?? I asked for subtle and I can't think of anything subtle about these highlights. I"m not sure if all this blonde looks good against my dark brown hair, it doesn't really even blend in.

My appointment was at 9 this morning and she went straight to work. I think she didn't want me to see her nails and change my mind..she put a cap on my head and began pulling hair through it...the only time I've ever gotten my hair highlighted they did it with tin-foil and I loved it.

I wondered why pulling my hair through those little holes hurt so much and why she seemed so awkward doing it..I wondered why when she washed my hair it hurt so much...Half-way through the haircut she (accidently?) turned my chair so I could see in the mirror and I noticed the NAILS. That explained the pain, the dropping of combs, the odd way she inserted the scissors onto her fingers and the odd clicking noises she kept making each time she switched hands (think Edward ScissorHands).

My friend is on her way over to give me her honest opinion. I'm going to try not to cry, but I have tissue on hand.

My head is still tender, it feels as if someone raked their nails across my head, which come to think of it, someone did.

By the way, this lady was recommended, so I didn't just open the phone book and take the first appointment available which might have been better.

Date: 8/25/2003 11:09:00 AM  From Authorid: 15675    U know I just got platinum blonde highlights and they did it with the tinfoil thingy...sounds like this lady didn't know what the heck she was doin (I've also had red highlights before)
Date: 8/25/2003 11:13:00 AM  From Authorid: 53052    phone and complain!! she didn't do what you wanted and she hurt you... i hope you didn't tip her!
Date: 8/25/2003 11:23:00 AM  From Authorid: 44321    My mom had the cap on her head years ago when they frosted it,I thought for highlights they used foil now? hmmm Fiona Scissor hands got a hold of you,I don't know much about highlights ,but I watch the make over shows and the highlights hardly ever stand out bright, unless they used stand out blonde etc.. on purpose.
Date: 8/25/2003 11:57:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 15228    Medusa, that's what I thought the cap was for, frosting hair. I asked her before she did much why she was using the cap and not foil, she said you can do it either way...I'd like to know what the difference is, I think also she may have left it on to long because another worker came up and looked at my head and asked me how long the stuff had been on...i didn't know, but she evidently went and got Fiona(LOL) because she came and checked my hair and washed it out right away.
Date: 8/25/2003 12:04:00 PM  From Authorid: 45684    I would definately call the salon, and demand that you either a) get your money back because it wasn't what you wanted or b) demand that someone there (not fiona scissor hands lol) fixes it for free.
Date: 8/25/2003 12:27:00 PM  From Authorid: 18527    I hope you didn't tip her or anything!!
Date: 8/25/2003 12:35:00 PM  From Authorid: 58078    You sound like my best friend when she first got highlights. I've gotten highlights before and its been with the tinfoil but usually for real short hair they use the cap.
Date: 8/25/2003 1:03:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 15228    My hair was down to my shoulders, though the shortest layer now hits me above my check bone...so I don't know why she used the cap.
Date: 8/25/2003 1:03:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 15228    Notice I'm avoiding the "tip" question....
Date: 8/25/2003 6:58:00 PM  From Authorid: 38256    Well at least hair grows right? lol My hairdresser uses the cap for my highlights and they always come out great, a nice sublte gold on my brown hair. I think foil allows for more color variation and stuff but it's wayyyyy more expensive. If you're really unhappy with it you should definately call and ask for a refund or someone to fix what she did. I can't imagine how she could do your hair w/nails that long!
Date: 8/26/2003 6:29:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 15228    cutie-86, that's what I figure, it will grow out...but now that I think about it, I don't think this is a color on my hair, it is bleach...she bleached my brown hair!!!! to get the "highlights". so it is going to look awful as it grows out. I am going to go back and see if she can do something to tone it down, since I have thick blonde stipes.ugh! something more fitting for a teenager or younger person..I figure at least the cut will grow out. My friend sort of liked the highlights, but not the cut.
Date: 8/26/2003 5:05:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 15228    I talked to my old beuatician today. He said bleach should never have come near my hair because it's so dark and to tell them to dye it and It'll probably have to be dyed several times before it grows out. So I called and told her I wasn't happy. I go in tomorrow so it can be fixed. It really is awful!
