I believe in an eye for an eye. If the person did something horrific then , pitter patter let's get atter, same thing should be inflicted upon them. |

I'm getting confused here. You violence shouldn't equal violence, but you want harsher punishments for criminals. What kind of punishments are you suggesting? And what would be considered abusing nature? |

I am with you. To some people jail is just a "vacation" on the tax payers. |

that's nice but did Ghandi ever have someone in his family murdered? Why should someone get away with a prison sentence when they have taken the life of another. I think if you kill you should be killed. |

PYRO I mean that is what I am torn on. Like there is a part of me that thinks they should get the same treatment. Then there is a part of me that thinks 2 wrong don't make a right. It is for sure though that it is a vacation for many criminals. Maybe through this debate someone will find a medium. WHat I consider by harming nature is dumping huge tons of toxic live waste and oil into the water on purpose to dump. Stuff like that. Got me? |

I think that Ghandi quote is neat, but I don't always agree with it. It depends on the situation to me.. |

This is a touchy subject because Justice is a idea that is based on perception. We can all say that two wrongs don't make a right, but then if it is our heart that is broken by some criminal, what do we think then. For the most part, our hearts would fill with hate and despair that this person had hurt us, or taken something from us...something we couldn't get back. It is hard to say what is the right way to punish those who would do wrong. As for me, I believe we are too lax on some things, and too strict on others. I don't think it is right that someone with 3 felony drug trafficking charges will go to jail for life, without parole but murderers get off on insanity pleas. But I am not willing to say I know the right way. I think if I had lost someone I would be more inclined to be full of hatred and I might even demand harsher punishments. But I have known hatred and despair, and I don't think it gets you anywhere even if it comes packaged under the name Justice. <regretfulhalo> |

Yes, I agree with you. I'm all for, "an eye for an eye." Of course, it's ironic that if we gave them the same punishment that they were convicted of, it would be considered "cruel and unusual punishment." Crazy isn't it.... I was going to write a post on this same issue but never got around to it. Good post. |

I don't think it is hatred that fills peoples hearts, that is a generalization about everyone's feelings. I personally feel that anyone who can harm a child or an animal isn't showing the "human-ness" that makes us a higher being so with that said, I think they deserve to be treated in the manner that they treat their innocent victims. Sure makes a great deterrent for the next sicko. |

I'm not sure excatly what the punishment should be, but I do think that if they were a lot harder on people they would think twice about doing the awful things they do. |

harsher punishment? yeah ok, how about extensive therapy, rehabilitation is the key here...unless its molestation |

I'd definitely say yes to the rehabilitation and therapy but yes also to harsher punishments. These kinds of people need long-term help anyway. |
