"Last year's wood"....kronk

Let's clean out last year's firewood.

Pile it high, in the back of Dad's jeep.

Hurricanes washed away the black-top road.

Low tides coming. We'll run the water's edge.

In olden days, the "Breeze Inn" stood,

just past that clump of cedar wood.

See the wasted piles of the old "cow pen."

Feels good to go this way, again.

Miles and miles of sandy beach-

One way in..We're out of reach.

Dig a pit in the soft, white sand

and pile the logs, 'till tall they stand.

A wind-less night..The red-blue fire-

Of your good love, I'll never tire.

The night-things, cry..The ocean, calls-

Reflected light, from heaven's halls-

Hopeless lovers, arm in arm-

Lapping water..Distant storm-

Hot-red coals..The fire slows-

Your touch..The night..Our sweet love, grows.

Date: 9/3/2003 9:28:00 PM  From Authorid: 33286    wow, strangely enough this transported me to the top of Sumas mountain on Christmas eve, wet firewood in a light snow storm with a dozen or so people all tossing cups of gasoline, trying to keep it lit, and then breaking an axle on the way down... great job man, thanks.
Date: 9/3/2003 9:29:00 PM  From Authorid: 42792    Thie reminded me of where I grew up at. My dad had made a picnic bench and later that year he died, when winter came we aran out of wood and my mom had to use it for firewood...I don't know why that came to mind because I was 2 when it happened but I still remember it...great poem!
Date: 9/4/2003 2:05:00 AM  From Authorid: 42945    I love the way you can incorporate some romance into some good ol memories my friend, reminds me of the wood we kept from a tree that my daddy had chopped down many years ago, Ted had a couple of the pieces turned by our local wood turner and I kept it for sentimental reasons, one piece was accidently used for fire wood once, but I keep the other piece on show...reminds me of daddy...love your poetry....hugs

Date: 9/4/2003 9:11:00 AM  From Authorid: 59418    Another great poem!! I just realised, when i read your poems, i always read them out loud..never do that with other poems lol!! hmm..ur's must be really good daddy! hehe *hugs*
Date: 9/4/2003 11:25:00 AM  From Authorid: 62222    I like how this poem incorporates something that seems ritualistic, the clearing of the wood, with a reason to be with one's beloved. We used to have bonfires on the beach when I was kid, I was always sad after the fire had died down though, because something so grand was all just ashes now. <RegretfulHalo>
