*Artist to check out: Maria
Album(s): "My soul"
Genre: Hmm rnb/pop?
Official site: http://www.mariamysoul.com
Best song: "I give, you take"
Last heard from: lol this month!
Grade (outta 5 stars): 7!*
*I don't usually and probably won't ever do this again but I was really blown away! I can't tell you really what her best song is, and she's only a 7 because I haven't heard all her stuff yet! Maybe you've heard "I give, you take" on the radio, or maybe you'll go download it on kazaa like a good lil reader after this ;). This young singer from Denmark is burnin up the charts and really I LOVE IT! She sounds a bit like Brandy meets Aaliyah and I'm sorry but I can't stand Ashanti she will never replace Aaliyah! Maria might not be able to replace her but she'll feel the emptied void. This ain't mindless Beyonce`/Ashanti rnb/pop this is good stuff! Her album drops September 30th so when it comes out I highly recommend you buy it! In the mean time support this brand spankin new artist and what god willing (unlike every other talented dreamwork act) will be a long career!*
-Artist to avoid: Hillary Duff
Album(s): "Metamorphis"
Genre: mindless pop
Debuted: 2003
Grade (outta 5 stars): minus 10-
-Okay I just I can not stand her! This 'disney' pop needs to end! Play, American Juniors, her, Jump 5, so forth just STOP already! Go home, hit puberty, come back when your old enough to smoke and we'll talk. Seriously people call this the next Britney Spears but I doubt Hillary will make it old enough to be frenchin on her idol at the VMA's in a few years. Her album is annoying, her songs are annoying, her movies are annoying, her show is annoying, she is annoying and I want it GONE! I love pop I really do, but my god I just cant stand pretweeny pop...it ain't right! This girl can't write her own songs and her excuse? 'Songwritting is a soul process, and I just don't have the time...' Okay if your puttin out an ALBUM then make time! Not to hard...well I'll just take solice in the fact that in a few years her star will fade...look at Mellisa Joan Hart (who thank God never made a CD!)-
:CD of the week: "Forever"
Artist: Spice Girls
Genre: good pop meets rnb meets disco yet is lacking the 'Geri' vibe.
Released: 11/7/2000
Official site: www.spicegirlsforever.co.uk
Best song: ohhh toughie...don't make me pick! Umm fine "Oxygen"
Grade (outta 5 stars): infinity + lol!":
:lol you knew it was coming! I had to review them I just did I did I did! Well anyways I picked the finest of the Spice Girls and reviewed it because well I do love this CD. I'm a nut...I know it but truly critics even gave them credit for this being a pretty decent CD. When Geri left in 98 she also took her sound. Spice Girls has a 'sound' all their own and seriously pop in their solo stuff you can see who brought what:
Baby: The Olivia Newton John like music Scary: The rnb flava Posh: The dance sound Sporty: The harder more emotional edge Ginger: The disco fun edge
Yeah so when Geri left we were left with the rest and seriously thats how this CD came out only it seems like Baby got less say in the sound lol! The only odd thing is I swear to god they tried to add in Ginger's flava and well...they didn't moderate it. Okay I throughly confused you I'm sorry. Anyways this CD is really good. Its got its fun songs such as "Holler", "If you wanna have some fun", and "Weekend love" while showing a more serious side to the girls. Just give "Oxygen", "Time goes by", and "Let love lead the way" a listen and you'll hear some really good stuff. Truly timeless so this is my CD pick of the week!:
