i am somewhere inbetween on the matter... i was thinking about doing it but the chance of infection is what was made my decision. i thought it would be kinda cool and have its advantages during some situations.  |

what to say.. what to say... well beehive hairstyles were trendy (although now passe), and those weren't the cleanest things in the world... but. they weren't permanent. and i know people can argue that it can be re-sewn but go through surgery?? to look, in my opinion, rather ridiculous? i don't get it... it would be either pricey (as medical insurance wouldn't cover it) or unsanitary and possibly dangerous. me, i'm okay with my tongue the way it is :)  |

it was my understanding that toungue splitting is body modification as opposed to actual surgery and that anesthetic isn't used for body modification. i think it's gross.  |

I think people could suffer long term side effects from it. Hate to be gross, but I heard stories from men who got their you-know-whats pierced that they lose feeling in it after awhile. And I bet tongue splitting, which looks way more painful, will have severe effects in the long run. Ouch.  |

I find it extremely gross. Who'd want to look like a reptile? Ultimately, to each his own though...it's their body. I do think that when they get older most will regret it and how well can it be reversed, if at all? I always consider the reversal of something I do to my body before doing it, since everyone changes and so do their lifestyles as they age. Good post.  |

Personally I'd have to agree with the author here..if it rocks your boat..cool, but my first thought is GROSS!! If someone considers getting it done make sure you think long and hard about it and don't just do it to do it..this is a permanent thing here..I would imagine.  |

I think it's nasty. I have only seen one person with this done and it made me sick to look at him while he was talking to me. I guess there is nothing wrong with it if the person really likes it, but I can't control the fact that it makes me sick.  |
