it isn't that they go unnoticed, i'm sure that they are read, just sometimes people don't have the right words to tell you how they feel about your posts. i know that i read a lot of great posts daily, and i don't reply to very many. they aren't going unnoitced, i promise! |

Remember, it's QUALITY not QUANTITY that matters. You could get one good reply that is more dear to you than a thousand crappy ones. |

Well, I've been here for going on three years and I don't get an immense amount of replies either. I'll just say it like it is... some people really just strive for replies. Some people don't care about the substance of their post, so they write about something they know will attract. You are obviously more focused on your writing, as I am. That's not bad but it's also not always an attention getter. Easy tips for attracting replies, post something highly controversial that effects everyone or interests most, Keep it short, Make the post ledgable without a lot of abbreviations or slang (some get annoyed by that), Seperate individual thoughts into paragraphs, and make the title catching with words that interest, not symbols (although sometimes that does work). This is just what I've seen from being here, it's nothing about your posts, as I didn't view them before writing this. Hope these general tips help. One more thing, don't take the lack of replies personally, everyone feels like that at some point. :) |

Okay Everyone>>>> Announcement here.... Mustang-Renee is an excellent poet. I don't know if "poet" is a good enough description of what I just read. I'm not the biggest poetry fan and I'm selective on those that I reply to but I have to say... her poems are very moving. I just read two of her poems and they aren't just "poems," they're feelings in motion. Seriously, check them out for yourself. Actually, I know she and a few other excellent writers of poetry on this site, that are incredibly talented. Just thought people should know.... |

Do people view them? Some people read them but don't reply. Don't be disheartened. Your words go out into the universe anyway... and those that are meant to read them, and get comfort from them, will read them. |

One thing that I have noticed is that the effort that you put into a post is not always reflected by the number of replys. Sometimes I have posted something silly and gotten lots of replys and other times I really work on a post and it seems to be largely ignored. |

I love poetry - but, I am 71 years of age and have never been able to connect with poems that do not rhyme or have a word rhythm. Now, your latest one that started: "In preparation for the cold ...and the wild "A journey not intended
For the weak and the mild" - WOW! that was terrific. Even though the remainder lost the beat - it did follow the thought. Sadly in today's world, there does not seem to be much interest in poetry. RAT

Do you write to express yourself, to share your feeling, to share your thoughts, or do you write to win some sort of popularity contest? |

I'm sorry but I pretty much skip the poetry section. I do not intend to hurt you in any way doing that. Have you ever posted something that was not a poem? I would say, write a post in the general category about your poem and draw people to it. I'm sure you ARE great, I'm just not much for poetry. Can you change a format and make it more of a general post? Just a thought. |

Notso...Poetry just seems a hard thing to get replies like other types of stories. but those that get into your poems will usually be faithful followers and comment on them regularly. Being a poet is not as easy as it seems. |

Poetry is a highly interpretable art. Some people just don't like it and they don't get it. It is more important to reach one person truthfully and honestly than it is 50 people in a frivolous manner. <RegretfulHalo> |

Hey... I have been here since 2001 and know exactly how you feel. Few read poetry and further more, it is often a popularity contest more than it is an indication of your quality. Post here to share your depth, but do it for you. There are those who understand and often times do not say anything. That is just how it is. ONE thing I can tell you though... Until you write just for you YOU. and care not for what others say and do. You will be their prisoner. Be free and write how you dare, care nothing for the wares of the comments of those who do not grasp your essence.... and thank you for this discusion. It has got me thinking. I believe I shall start posting some open debates, this is a great format for this... It is how business is done here. |

I understand where your coming from alot of the time I am selfish about my writing and write for myself ... other time I feel I 've written some of my best work and hope some will read and the poem goes unnoticed ... It strange here @ usm in the early days summer of 2000 I used to get a dozen or so replys with only 10000 members now there is supposedly 60000 + and I get 1-2-3 replys ... I don't know ... I think too reputation has alot to do with it ... and the way some people judge you here ... I can promise you one thing ... I know you'll be getting @ least one more reply whenever the opportunity arises for cc ... |
