Football, should teams go for 2 for the win, or should they kick for 1 and go for overtime, I think

For those of you who do not know what I am talking about. I am talking about Football, when you score a Touchdown, you get 6 pts, and then you can add to your lead by the extra point. You can either kick for 1, or do a scrimage play and try for 2.

If the closing seconds of the game, many people go for 1 and try for overtime. I think they should try for 2.

First of all, going for 1 is alot easier, when the closing seconds of the game, people just try to win in Overtime.

There are reasons why I think teams should go for 2. Number 1, people think that it is too much of a gamble. Well kicking for 1, and trying to win it in overtime, is just as much of a gamble, maybe even more of a gamle than going for the win in regulation.

Another reason is, these Football players are Human, like everyone else, these players do get tired, especially after playing for 3 hours(1 Hour of regulation, and rest is time outs, etc.) So they do get tired, and that can lead to injuries.

I realize, that you we can talk about this until the cows come home, and won't change the coaches mind. But what do you think, go for 1 or 2.

Date: 9/23/2003 6:15:00 AM  From Authorid: 2030    1984 Orange Bowl, #1 ranked Nebraska against #2 ranked Miami. After a brutal game Nebr. is down by 7 and scores with 35 seconds left. A kicked extra point gives them the tie and the national championship. Nebraska coach Tom Osborne came to win, he goes for two, the pass is deflected and Miami wins it's first national championship. Osborne says it never occured to him to go for the tie, he goes on to win 3 national championships in the 90's, retires with the best win/ loss pecentage in the history of college football and becomes a US Congressman.
