I think it is just the animal instinct in us. Humans are a social animal - like many animals "in the wild" we tend to form in packs or clans or herds, etc. I think that we tend to stick to those "like us" because that is where we feel more comfortable. Of course there are always exceptions to every rule but I think by and large we do it more instinctually than anything. I do however think it is sad when we use the label to degrade others or to justify our actions when they are deplorable. cheers,  |

And I should mention that my leader is me. I do not follow the trends, I don't follow music trends, I don't have a large group of friends, I have no one I would TRULY call a freind, I speak my piece, wether it is wanted or not usually, I don't play well with drama in others lives and most of my Aquantices are WAY different from me. I don't drink, I don't do drugs and the only thing I am a slave to is cigarettes. (evil things) But I make my own path and I follow my instincts. I believe this makes me a better person. I am not a sheep, I do not follow the herd. And most belive because I am so brash at times that I am mean and heartless. But on the contrary. I am a kind person and trustworthy. But only to those that show me they are the same once in a while. |

You have an interesting observation. People should be treated as individuals. I think that it is silly to assume that all members of a group think or act the same. The press has gone a long way to classify people by groups. The press often reports "christians" as Right wing. The underlying assumption is that "all" christians have the same political positions. That is stupid. Good post.  |

baaahhhhh hehe nah. I'm one of the people LEAST to follow the herd...at least lately. I used to give into peer pressure pretty easily. Then I got jaded, and I don't care anymore. lol  |

and its "natural" to want to be accepted and be with people like yourself....so we make groups. think of wolves and pack mentalities. just because we're so "advanced" *laughs to self* doesnt mean we're above primal urges. |

ya i see where ya'll are coming from, i have friends in each group and i just float around at lunch, like i'll sit with my upperclass gothic friends (hey i'm using the labels too!) and then float over to some of my semi gothic friends, then float to the preppier friends, then repeat  |

Trust me you have not affended me I agrue with you. Because I dress like a punk/goth with some other styles so I am a mix right and cus I like electronic music like the chemical brothers I get snubbed for it. I mean I like rock evenecsence midnigh oil and that but I love electronic music like rave I can listen to it any time and people think I should dress differently cus of it. I don't try and be a punk a goth or a raver I just listen and wear what I want I don't even try to be anything. Why must we be %100 of a style.
