If i was a parent i would only send my child to a private school if the public school was in a bad area or if my child had dicipline problems and needed the extra attention. I go to a public school and what Daschle says is true, at least in my area. Private schools are not required to follow the same curriculum or release test scores like public schools are. My mom is a teacher at the public middle school i went to and she has seem many students that come from private schools that are behind because of this difference. In fact when my mom first started teaching she was offered a job teaching Art at a private school when she is Science/Social Studies certified!!! Anyway i believe that both options have their pros and cons and if you do your research you can find a good match but personally i'd choose public schooling. |

Some states did require that private schools publish their test scores. After a few years of the public schools being humiliated and people asking questions they no longer required it. Some private schools may not be up to par but the majority are far ahead. When a student from a public school transfers to private schools in my area they have to go back at least one year if not two because they are so far behind. |

Private schools are better...safer, a more work-induced atmosphere. |

I agree for the most part ShimmerKiss, some states do have better public education then others and even some of the states who have poor public education still have a few school districts in more afluent areas that aren't bad, but overall private schools offer a better education. |

The public schools where we choose to raise our children are excellent. Both my kids did well in school, particapated in numerous afterschool activities and now are very successful in their college careers. The thing that I am most proud of about them is that they are really nice people. BTW, we choose to live where we live partially because of the schools. |

It may be a different case here, As I don't go to the US, i go to a school in Singapore (Asia). I go to a private school ...because public school's here their system sux (no offence to them) ..but everything in there system is just knowledge knowledge knowledge. ..my school we do that, but then we expand on it ..like most private school's we're a bit more creative and all. However, specifically my school isn't the great private school as we get all the drop outs or expelled people from the other school Lol. But yeah ...living in Asia I say a private school is the best, but America or Canada I would say public schools! |

Well, considering that I attended both private and public schools, I will say that I liked the public schools way better. In my opinion, people are meaner in private schools and I did not do better. Now this is only from MY experience, but I did way better in public school than in private school. But if I were in a city, I'd rather send my kid to a private school so they don't get exposed to a bunch of bad crap and turn into thugs. |

The public school I went to was ok, but it was in a "rich" with lots of money comming in from property taxes. Now the state passed a law where our school district has to give money to another poor school, I don't like that idea at all. Anyways I like the idea of school vouchers. |
