was she perhaps too far along for the pill to be effective without complication? could she have had an allergic reaction? could it be the pill itself? surely though there has been statistical follow up on the women that have been using it? |

I think it should be a little harder to get. I know people that sell this on the street. |

Doh, I have no idea, this is what my local news reported and I don't have the information on the other death. It could be that, but just because she was hiding, I have the feeling that she may have ignored the warning signs that something may be wrong and I am thinking most women trying to hide a pregnancy would do that too. |

Yes but then you would have to write up separate laws for that and then you would have to go into separate laws for varying degrees. It would just be a nightmare. People wouldn't know where they would be going. I think that unless the pill is proven to contain chemicals that could kill the person then they should be taken off the market but then again, maybe it's up to the GP's to do the necessary research into the patient before they give pills like this one! |

No way, DO NOT BAN IT! It may have killed someone, but come on, how many lives has it saved? How many "kids" would have babies if it were not for this pill? |

lots of stupid kids. by all means, let's skip investigating the saftey of a medical option in the name of allowing kids to be stupid and parents to be lax. |

I can't think of any drug that has no harmful side effects. Even aspirin can be deadly for some. Many drugs have the potential to cause extreme problems. Even with antibiotics there are risks. Those risks (as Midnightly stated) should be a factor whenever anyone considers or decides to take any prescribed drug. |

No- they should not ban it. they really should give enough information about it, and complete the investigations. and they should tell people of all the risks before they get it. |

And so was your comment Magenta. I agree 100%. Any drug can be harmful or even fatal to some. It is a huge responsibility for any practioner, complications may occur with any drug, sometimes even to those who have previously had no problems with "familiar" drugs. |

With most medications they have side effects. What might harm someone else might do wonders for another. Perhaps this pill doesn't even have all the kinks worked out yet. Very Very sad. I don't even know what to say about banning it or not. I do know women have died or got infections from a regular abortions. So I guess it is up to ones preference to decide to take it or not. Good post |

if used in a timely manner, most likely this is safer than the surgical option, but still, it ought to be thouroughly investigated and i'm sure it will be. death as a result from using a drug usually is followed up on for safety reasons. |

Let me clarify this a bit. There are side effects with all medications and medical procedures. When you get a prescription from the pharmacy there is generally a list of precautions on a sheet a paper that comes with it. What I am saying is this. If I have strep throat and I take an antibiotic and my throat starts to close up there would be no hesitation on my part to seek emergency medical care. Who cares right? I have strep throat and if my parents and family found about it, big deal! On the otherhand if I was pregnant and hiding it, took the pill and started to have complications, I am most likely going to wait and see if this passes because it is a big deal to seek emergency medical treatment and have my parents and family found out that I was pregnany and was terminating it. Therefore because that scenerio is most likely to happen, allowing someone to "perform" (by ingesting a chemical that causes expulsion) this at home on their own and leave them responsible for complications may have a more endangering effect than having the procedure done in a controlled environment under the care of physician. Now of course problems can and do occur with D&C abortion but the chances have to be less than taking a pill at your own risk at home. Based on this, and not the issue of whether or not it is the morally correct thing to do, do you think that if women continue to die from not seeking medical treatment due to complications that the FDA would consider banning it's use? |

i don't think it should be given to minors without their parent's consent, it isn't in their best health and safety interests. an adult can make their own choices and hopefully behave more responsibly and with less repruussions to fear. |

I think it might be more sensible to make an age limit for allowing to take it, unless the girl has parental consent |

I can't say that I disagree, but the problem overall doesn't lie with age. The problem is with any female that is going to take this pill, not tell anyone that they are pregnant, much less aborting, and then come across complications from using it. They are most likely to procrastinate about something that could be seriously life threatening for fear that seeking emergency care will "reveal" their secret to friends and family they didn't want knowing. |
