This is why, even today, strawberries are still hand picked. When selecting strawberries, look for fresh, bright, glossy ones. They're ready to eat if they're firm to touch and have a strong red colour. It's a good idea to turn the punnet upside down to check for bruises or mould before buying. Store in the fridge and wash just before eating. To appreciate their full flavour, serve at room temperature. Strawberries are unusual because unlike most fruits, their sees are on the outside. These tiny seeds provide a source of fibre and with around 80kilojoules per 100grams, strawberries make a perfect snack, fruit dessert or a delicious addition to smoothies..(yummy) Strawberries are also a valuable antioxidant and a fantastic source of vitamin C. Although they are generally available all year round, strawberries reach their peak in the summer... I love strawberries and use them a lot in my cooking and eating straight from the fridge....YUMMY!!!!!!
