ok I know this girl from school and stuff, Her name is Danielle. She wrote a letter to the local newspaper about an issue she thought was important to discuss. I'll type the article here, after that, I will type the article I plan to send in in response to her letter. Please tell me if I'm doing the right thing!
Ok, this is Danielle's article. Parts have been taken out for privacy.
"Diversity" My name is Danielle ******, and I'm ** years old. I attend the ******** Middle School. I am in seventh grade on team 73. Our team got together on Oct. 9 and watched a movie called "Truth About Hate". In this movie, teenagers got together and learned about diversity. One thing I want to point out about this movie was the part that told us to accept gays. I refuse to accept this lifestyle they choose to live. After watching this movie, I felt grossed out. It's not normal to live that way. God made Adam and Eve so that they could have children. I dno't understand how this society could think it's acceptable for two people of the same sex to be romantically involved with each other. When some people read this letter, they may think I'm cruel and hateful, but that's not the case here. Even though I don't agree with this behavior, I will treat them with respect and I continually pray that they will change their minds about the way they live their life.
That's the end of her article. Now with mine....
To Danielle ******: I too attended the Middle School, and everyone there seems to be totally tolerable with everyone's differences. I whole-heartedly accept people who chose to live with a different lifestyle than what I have chosen to lead, and even though I'm not completely independant yet, I expect people to accept me for who I am as well. The movie that you saw with the rest of team 73 wasn't ment to gross you out. It was ment to open your eyes to everyone elses unique traits. I'm sorry that you felt so strongly against some people's OWN DECISIONS that you felt you had to judge them yourself. Since you seem to follow the faith quite strongly, please remember that you are not to judge, for we all will be judged in the eyes of the Lord. We are but the "vessels" to "spread the word". If you happen to have a neighbor move out, and a gay/lesbian couple moves in, what would you do? The Bible states that you should "Love thy neighbor". You may find it gross for two people of the same sex to be intimately involved with each other, but what if they just didn't have a choice? One cannot guide your own heart, and I would know. The reason why gays/lesbians are discriminated against is because some people just down-right refuse to accept them, much like yourself. Do you even KNOW anyone who is gay/lesbian/bisexual? They are humans, just like me and you. They deserve the same respect and courtesy as everyone else, as much as you may disagree with me. These people have a hard enough time trying to be "normal". There is no such thing as "normal"! Since everyone is unique in their own views and daily activities and the such, how can anyone be "normal"? Just because people aren't all alike doesn't mean they should be put down by anyone else. Needless to say, I was quite apalled and shocked when I read your letter. Stefanye ********
