The traditional concept of Satan and Hell not the names but the concepts are Pagan in origin. They did not originate from early Christians but from other religions. Judaism does not believe in the Christian concept of Satan nor do they believe in the Christian concept of Hell. Same with early Christians they did not believe in Satan or Hell. The Roman Catholic Church while translating the Bible personified satan by not translating it in some areas and translating it in others because they believed the pagan myths. In the original Hebrew Text of the Old Testament satan means to oppose, an adversary, an accuser. Anyone could be a satan, but the Catholics decided to only translate it in some instances and not to in others and to capitalize it, personifying it. In the original Greek text diabolos which they chose to translate as devil in some places and not in others translates to a liar, an enemy, a false accuser also. If you replace satan or devil in the Bible with the correct translations or if you replace enemy, accuser, liar with satan or devil, God in the Bible was referred to as a satan in Job. When Jesus was tempted forty days and forty nights by the devil, it means by the enemy. Satan and the devil are the evil within a person, there's no red guy with a pitchfork in the sky trying to win souls it's the fight within each person to be evil or not. I choose to go back to the original texts and teachings of Christianity and not follow the Roman Catholic teachings of Hell and Satan which are pagan and follow Dante's Inferno. Maybe next time they tell you that you believe in Satan you should ask why they believe in a pagan god if they're not pagan. ;) |

well, I don't think, I know. No, we do not believe in a "Satan", nor a "Hell". Those concepts came out of the Early Christian church. It is not uncommon to "demonize" local beliefs, and religions, by those who have won. |

Pagans...I don't know how they perceive Satan or if they do at all. Wiccans, from what I've heard...they believe in Nature and the powers that are given by it but not necessarily Satan. Since I'm not part of either of these belief-systems...I don't know tons about their beliefs nor have I ever professed to. |

In just referencing Hebrew vs. Christian verses there is a large discrepency. The Hebrew scriptures do not mention demons. Satan is mentioned 15 times, 8 times in Job, 1 in Chronicles, 2 in Zecharia, and 2 in Psalms. Evil spirits are mentioned 7 times, 6 in Saul, and 1 in Samuel. In every instance the spirits or term satan is under direct control of God, working as agents of God. In Christian scriptures, demons are mentioned 33 times, Satan 39 times, the devil 33 times and evil spirits 17 times working outside of God's control. Twenty two times in Hebrew text and 122 times in Christian text. The focus clearly is shifted off of God and onto his evil enemy. It distorts the entire meaning of the Bible. When someone can give me proof of the untranslated Hebrew text of the Old Testament and the untranslated Greek text of the New Testament referencing Satan as God's arch enemy then maybe I'll believe it, same goes for Hell. For me, I won't go by the distorted version of Christianity put out by the Roman Catholic Church centuries ago. Their history and the fact they continue to use paganism in their worship to this day just doesnt work for me. I'm Christian, not Pagan if it's not in the original texts I'm not buying it. Maybe the Catholic Church with it's child molesting priests and other scandals is God's way of saying he doesn't like his words being distorted. Maybe some Christians don't have a problem with it, I believe Christianity is a monotheistic religion, not polytheistic and having Satan who people can worship makes it in my opinion polytheistic. |

The Church (historically the Roman Catholic Church) said that ANY other religion including rival Christian churches were devil worshipers. It was their way of saying only they were right and everyone else was literally going to Hell. It was not a reflection on the actual beliefs and practices of the other faiths in question. The Catholic Church could have cared less about that. Mass accusations of Christians worshiping Satan arose from turmoil and civil wars of the Renaissance and Reformation and have more to do with religious and political dissent from the RC Church than anything else. The only organized self proclaimed Satan worshipers that I know of, are from Anton Levay's Church of Satan. Levay founded his church in 1960's. |

I think if you want to know what Pagens and Wiccans believe, you should ask them. I don't think Christians would be the source of knowledge of what you are looking for.... |

How can you believe in satan if you dont believe in God? That's just an oxymoron, because they are both christian entities, and wiccans are definitely not christian. i do not believe in satan, although i know that there is evil out there. |
