I think labels (Preps, goths, jocks, etc.) is stupid personally.. and I think it's childish that people are like that because of the so called "goths" are different from the so called "preps" When I was in school probably seventh-ninth is when you'd have all this happening with "goths" and "preps" etc.. but once you hit tenth grade people grow up. |

I guess at the jr-high/high school age, kids are searching for an identity and for some reason kids think an identity comes in the form of clothing and make-up. Each group probably thinks they are special/different, when really they are conforming to there group. When they get into the real world they will (hopefully) realize your identity comes in what you accomplish, not in what you wear. You don't see many 30 year old goths walking around. |

And I don't mean to pick on the goths. I knew many kids who were the "popular" ones in high school, but had a hard time making the transition to college because they were suddenly the little fish in a big pond, where as in high school they'd always been the big fish in the little pond. I think in many ways the "floaters" (yes, that is a real term I read in a book on teenagers), or those who didn't have to have an identity through what they wear (you sound like a floater) had the easiest transition. I guess because you accept people for who they are, not for what they wear. |

I know! I understand what ur saying. But at my school the only people who do that is these "punk" chics who think there the best and they are hated by most people for being the witches they are. I mean the little group I hang out with is so diverse I mean every type of person from every label you can think of we have em in our group and we all get along!! yay! |

I think it's stupid, and especially because they lable people as certian things just by the way they dress, clothes don't make a person. Erin- |

Well preps, goths, punks....whatever. Look we are all people, all humans. Maybe it would be better to put all these so called groups into 2 groups. ya know like "stupid people" and "not stupid people". or maybe "people that hate" and "people that dont hate". |

I read kelly's comment and had to agree with it.....I was a "floater" with athletic tendency's LOL though I may hate college....when I first started it was eaaaaaaaaasy....I had no problem going from HS to college.....some of my other friends who were in a specific 'clique' had more issues....if they even went to college....I really dislike how people are labeled.....but alas I don't see that ever ending!!!! |

I am what some people call "goth". I dress in black a lot, color my hair, and listen to hardcore, new metal, and all other types of rock. But I'm Christian, so you know... Anyway I don't think it's right to label people. Not saying you're wrong, in fact in some situations, such as this, you need to label to get your point across. But anyway. There should NOT EVER be little wars between cliques and stereotypes. It ends up making everyone look stupid, bad, and stereotypes. It's BULL. In fact, most "goths" and "punks" hate the fact that everyone gives them a bad rep for being jerks and stuff, and by picking on "preps", they not only prove the stereotypes, they strengthen them. It should never matter what clothes someone wears, the people they hang out with, or anything like that. You should form your opinions using the person INSIDE. Judge not lest ye be judged. It's true. Everyone is irrevocably the same, but forever striving to be different. Nothing will ever change. Why wage war with others when it won't ever change a thing? Labels are nothing but people judging others by outward appearances. How many friends can one expect to have when they'll only talk to people who dress like them. What if you only hung out with people who, like you, had exactly 17 freckles on each cheek? How dumb would that be? Or if you only hung out with people who knew a well-kept government secret without having to be told? Labels are for Losers. Label, Loser. Both start with l, both have 5 letters. Hmm!

Eggh. I'm going through this at the moment. People call me Goth, and Punk, and I only dress the way I want, and listen to what I want. I listen to Marylin Manson, and my best friend Anne listens to Hilary Duff. She is preppy, and I guess I'm punk or something, but we are best friends and get along fine. I find that a lot of preps I know though are more on the conceited side, and always like to make fun of me. I don't spit it back, but a lot of other people do....Punks and Goths don't like preps because they think they are fakes, and Preps hate Goths and Punks for being who they are I guess.... hate labels and stereo-types, but I can see why so many hate each other....They both have the stereo-types stuck in their heads. Most preps that hate Goths and punks are "They believe in the devil (goth) or, They just want attention (punks). Goths and punks think "Oh God, they're so fake," or, "I can't believe how stupid they are." I honestly don't care, seeing as my best friend and I are totally different....It's just stereo-types and labels, which everyone likes to use....Blah. |

Yep, it's pure prejudice...it's judging someone for how they look. Unfortunatley, it VERY prevelant in schools but there are the good kids...like yourself that see beyond the pettiness. It takes a strong person to be different and an even stronger one to stand up for those that are. I was a loaner in school and that was the one thing I did correctly while in school. I had friends from every crowd and I was friends with who ever was nice to me...plain and simple. Good luck to you. |
