yea that is completly unfair! usually if you talk to the teacher and they can talk to the office and varify that you were only late not absent you can have those cleared. But that really does really suck *hugs* i hope everything works out for the better!! |

We have six days-- detention if your absence is unexcused. No, it's not fair. But it is understandable. Sometimes, when adults have "control" they get a little caught up in the little things rather than the big picture. The rule was instated for the kids that would otherwise not show up. Unfortunatly, everone else feels the consequences. I do believe, however, that there is a hearing after your tenth day to decide whetehr you should get credit-- if you have As or Bs in that class you will most likely recieve credit anyway. |

You are kidding me right? LOL! If your rule book states you will be punished after 10 days of absence that doesn't mean you get in trouble on the 11th day. That means 10 TIMES your in trouble. You missed 10 days. That means you reached their number of 10 times so you are being punished. You know like 3 strikes and your out. Third time, your out, 10th time, your in trouble. There is no 4th and there is no 11th. Furthermore, the way that it generally works in the school system, if you are late it counts as half an absence for the class. When I was in school you could miss 30 days of class time for a full year class and 15 days for a half year class and no matter what your grade is you fail because of your attendance. If you walked in the door 30 seconds after the bell, you were late and it counted as half an absence. Let's keep in mind the school year just started and the amount of school you have missed in the small timeframe shows a pattern they are going to jump on. So fine you are sick, then have your doctor verify that you are sick, get your rear into bed early and get up and out of bed on time for school. In the real world honey you would have lost your job for this...and that is what school is, preparation for the real world. |

Well if you have been sick than you should be able to get doctors excuses, and half of those absenses will be excused than won' they?? |

I have to agree with Az on this one..I am going through something similar with my oldest son..He has missed 22 days this year already!! School just started two months ago, and he has missed all this time. He has not gone a full week yet. something NEEDS to be done. Like Az said, High School is preparation for the real world and if you cant take responsibility NOW in school you will have some severe problems coping in the real world. |

At my oldest kid's school he is allowed only 3 days of missing school for 9 weeks. If the forth day is missed he can be failed. At the jr high my other son is allowed 15 days for the year....at 16 he can be failed if there is no doctor's note. 3 tardies will get ya Wednesday school......Also you said you were tardy well you did miss 10 days in that first class.....so I guess your school has every right to "punish" you. As unfair as it seems to you they are only trying to help you with responsibility . Get you ready for the real world that you will be facing. I would get the doctor's notes to cover the days you have missed cause that will be in your favor. |

Try teaching a class where one student has missed previous work. Try starting a lesson when a student walks in late. It is a major problem that us Teachers are expected to cope with. Our carefully prepared lesson plans get ruined as we find ourselves having to take our attention away from the class to deal with a latecomer or someone who has no knowledge of what the class is doing. Remember that lessons often take a LOT longer to plan than they do to deliver and maybe you'll start to see both sides of this. As Ladyluck says, school is a preparation for the real world...where if you're lucky you'll get counselling after a number of absences instead of being fired on the spot. Lateness is something else that an employer will not stand for. |

ok... look at it this way... high school is a job you do not get paid for in money(it's like being a stay at home mom... you do not get paid for in cash but it's a job none the less.. and might i add it can be a very fulfilling job) you do a good job you move up you do a bad job you move down... at any workplace you cannot skip or be late for your job.. you would get fired(aka expelled)... i can see your point...next time your ill get a note from your mother stating that you were indeed home and ill(and keep the note as a refereance if they try to pull this again... same with getting a note that the car didn't start.. i know it's petty but it helps)... if you start looking at school as a workplace.. your outlook on it will change dramatically |

I wonder, do you have students working in the office as assistants? They could have changed your data for you. I know this happened to me. Good luck. |

I only replied to one... I don't wanna reply to all. Thanks for people who see my side :) I know I am being stubborn with this but I think my school is so strict. For all of you that think I should have been punished, Do you think its fair that they lock bathrooms and we have to walk around the whole school to find a hall moniter to unlock it? I find this so dumb and I am sorry if I have offended anyone. |
