The Amityville story totally freaked me out when I was younger. I grew up in a real Funeral home (my step-dad was a mortician) and the amityville house always reminded me of my house. I had nightmares for years after I read the book. I don't know how much of it was true or not. I saw on a post here a while back that the youngest kids said the stuff didn't happen, but the older kid and the dad maintained that it did happen. ![]() |

I really enjoyed the book better than the movie. It explained more about the Indians using the site to cure thier insane or bury the dead and such as that. Now close by here we have the Maco Light. Seems a train engineer named Joe Baldwin lost his head when his railcar was struck by an oncoming train. Since then a light has appeared over the train tracks and moves from one end to another. The rails have been removed some 30+ years but the railbed is still intact. And it is kept mowed by the locals so that the people who want to see the lights can. Devils Tramping Ground near Siler City is another one. I have camped out there before and it was really creepy. It is said that Satan walks thier nightly in a 20 ft circle. In the circle nothing grows and the soil in the path is dead. Anything placed thier will be "kicked" out of the path by next morning. It is now posted property by thrill seekers still go there. As far as Amity I cant say. It is based on a true story and I hope it never happens to me. ![]() |

Actually the Amityville Horror was a marketing ploy and hoax. Some of the family still maintains that something happened but without a doubt it was NOTHING compared to the stories they told. With 5+ books in which there is no continuity and the kids don't age over a span of like 5 years...you know something is up. ![]() |

I have had many experiences with ghosts. Mine were never extreme like some special people (though I wish some of them were) But, anyway, I know nothing about the Amity Ville Horror House. -Sparky the WonderDog ![]() |

There are a lot of interesting websites that debate on whether or not the Amityville haunting was a hoax. Personally, I am leaning toward that it was a hoax. Everyone who has lived at the house since the Lutz family have never had any problems. But whether its true or not, its a good story. ![]() |

Even if it was a hoax (and I can see how it most likely was), it still scared the heck out of me when I was little. The movie wasn't nearly as scary as the book. ![]() |

Kelly is right. If you think the movie is scary, you should read the book. It's pretty spooky. ![]() |

I always heard the family went into debt and hoaxed the whole thing to make money to help them pay their debts. They were on the Merv Griffin show many years ago and had pictures and it was so chilling and then to have it all admitted later it was made up; well I have had little faith in these types of things ever since. I think the admission brought alot of ghost hungry people down. ![]() |

I read about it and I do believe some of it but I think some of it may be fictionalized for the dramatic purposes ![]() |
