I have had blood tests twice a year since I was born and it never stops, because I have hypothyroidism and I need to get my levels tested so they know what meds to give me. Today I had a blood test. I was sitting in the room and a lady came in to take my blood. I pulled up my hoodie sleeve and she tied the rubber thing around my arm to pop out my veins, and she tied it way too tight. Then when she put the needle in, it actually hurt, and it hasnt hurt since I was like 9. So she was taking my blood and it was really annoying because she was SUPPOSED to untie the rubber thing but she didn't. I was just sitting there reading a chart about normal baby growth and she said "It stopped." I just sat there. Then she said, "It's comin out real slow. It stopped. Oh there it goes. Oh it was comin out just fine. It stopped. It's slow." I asked her if she got the vein, and she said "Oh its fine, you can look, I'm not tryin to poke you again." I looked and she was right, it was coming out really slow. Then it started spurting in the tube like a bat out of you know where and I looked away really fast. How gross. So I kept lookin at the baby chart and the tube filled up so she had to get the next one, and she took forever getting it set up and I was like what the heck, cuz its supposed to be a less than 30 second procedure and it had been like a minute and a half. My tummy started to hurt really bad, I'm sure if she doesn't hurry up I was going to puke on her. Suddenly my vision started to go away, and I panicked, this has NEVER HAPPENED EVER before. Then I couldn't see anything. I was blind and thinking what did you do to me? I started to lose my hearing and I was really dizzy. I felt sick. I was blind. I was dizzy. I was going deaf. I was seriously thinking I was gonna die. I started screaming at her to take the needle out cuz "I'm dying!" She told me its out, its out! She taped a cotton ball over the puncture and walked me to the doctor bed. I lay down and passed out. When I woke up another nurse wass taking my blood pressure and I was shaky and dizzy. My doctor told me it's a normal reaction, a blood test is traumatic to the body and since the lady took so long my blood vessels constricted and no oxygen was getting to my brain so I blacked out. My blood pressure was 92 over 65. The nurse who took my B.P. looks worried, she's nice, I like her. Then my doctor told me to keep takin my meds and sent me off on my merry little way. It was all really scary!
