I think the child should be protected no matter what, but at the same time I would like to see the molester put in jail where he would be molested on a daily basis. This is a tough question really. ![]() |

I think it's a hard decision too. That's why I can't assume that the case 10 years ago is NOT true. I'm not that childs parents...if it WAS true, they had to make a tough choice.... ![]() |

There is nothing that says that you can't take someone to trial and also sue them for amount it will take to put your child in counseling to help them deal with what has happened. What isn't okay is for you to take money, and not pursue the full letter of the law, thus allowing for a reoccurance of what happened to YOUR child. My child had to suffer through this.....I would not wish it upon another, but the suffering isn't going to end until the person is held responsible for what happened. <RegretfulHalo> ![]() |

I agree Halo. A person who would commit such an act should pay for what they did. And you make another good point...to stop them from doing it again. Maybe if it had been handled differently 10 years ago we wouldn't be here now hmm? Thanks for stopping by! ![]() |

Here in Canada there is civil law and criminal law. If a person commits a crime (and sexual abuse of a minor is a crime) the POLICE press the charges - not the person. The victim cannot drop the charges although they could refuse to testify. Monetary rewards are not normally given in criminal cases. ----- In civil cases one person sues another for monetary rewards. They can withdraw their case at any time. --- I don't know the laws in the US where the alleged crime occurred. Perhaps someone can check that out.![]() |

I would have pushed for the criminal issue. Then the courts could reach a decision as to his guilt or innocense. That does not preclude takeing him to civil court after the criminal trial. ![]() |

okay- im not a parent- so ill use my little brother as an example, if someone had harmed him i would want them to get what they deserved, my brother could be seriously mentally damaged by some freak who "will sleep with a boy, but don't worry, they dont go as far as sex" well if he's that messed up, how can you trust people like m.j. to tell the truth?, i would definately go with going ahead with the charges. ![]() |

Considering that Michael Jackson has had allegations of child molestation floating around him for nearly 20 years, any parent who allows their child to stay with him now should be charged with child abuse and pandering. Mr Jackson should be sent to jail for child molestation instead of being allowed to buy his way out of it. ![]() |

I would prosecute... the well being of a child is NOT worth losing to money!! IF the parents of the child 10 years ago had persued it in court, then maybe we wouldnt be listening about this other child on the news right now.. Such a sad situation... ![]() |

With the high profile Lawyers that MJ had, it is no wonder the people took the settlement, no telling what sort of 'persuasion' they had to listen to, ughhhh, I hate this is happening again :( But like others above said, they could have persued it and THEN sued him for the money. People are railroaded by our legal system when someone 'popular' is the subject.. ![]() |

Having been sexually abused as a child, I think it is much more important to bring charges up against the perpatrator in order to keep them from harming other children in the future. What's more important, protecting one child, or protecting many children? ![]() |

I would never let a child of mine stay with anyone I didn't truly know. And if I did and this happened to mine I would go through with the court case because it would be so important to uphold a principle. I doubt the accusers had a really good case otherwise the police would have pursued it regardless. ![]() |

Excerpt from an MSN article Excerpt from an MSN Article- In 1993, Jackson had faced a child-molestation investigation that never resulted in charges because the child refused to testify. Jackson reportedly paid a multimillion-dollar settlement in that case but maintained his innocence. California law was specifically changed because of that case, and now a child victim can be forced to testify, Sneddon said. However, Sneddon said the youngster in this case is cooperating. | Date: 11/19/2003 5:28:00 PM From Authorid: 62410 I work in the legal field and I know there are a lot of people and an incredible amount of energy put into getting a Plaintiff to settle before trial. Usually there is a couple of mandatory settlement conferences and mediation where an outside mediator comes in and works his magic to make the early settlement. If could have been as simple as the parents not wanting to further traumatize their child and a saavy mediator with knack for getting people to break down and just settle. In my experience, that's how it usually works. If it were my child, I probably would have spared him the trauma and taken the settlement. There really is a lot of pressure put on Plaintiffs to settle. It's hard to resist. Scall |

if I really had a case against him, I wouldn't take the money, I would push to take the thing all the way through court at the risk of losing. Because, to me, settling is losing. The whole point is to have the person recognized as a molestor and prevented from doing the same thing to other children. ![]() |

first of all-I would never have allowed my son to "slumber parties" with an adult man. Especially a freak like MJ. BUT, allowing that children can be molested in a public bathroom, in minutes, I would have to say, that if anyone, ANYONE toucjed one of my children, they better pray the police catch them before I do. Without question, I would press charges. To protect my child, AND TO PROTECT EVERYONE ELSE'S CHILD. Because pedophiles do NOT stop at one child. EVER. The $20,000,000. That will pay for what? A lifetime of therepy for the child? Oh, wait, this boy, got to see MJ get away with molesting him, AND go on to adopt three children? I am surprised the original vicitm has not attempted suicide. I think MJ is a freak. And, a pedophile, and a danger to all children. ![]() |
