I went to get my repeat mammogram like I was supposed to and it turns out that I have these microclarifications in my right breast. They are in clusters and there are two of them. They show up like real tiny white spots on the mammogram all bunched together. But they are small clusters from what the radiologist told me. But he did recommened a biopsy. The surgeon's office is to call me tomorrow to set it all up. Anyway, I am supposed to be getting this "core" biopsy done, where I lay on my stomach, and my right breast will be exposed through this opening, and the surgeon and radiologist will be under the table which will be raised of course and stick a needle thing in my breast to get the tissue out for a sample to see and sent out to the lab to test for malignancy or benign. I never had a breast biopsy done in my life, let alone hearing about how they are going to do it. I also will be awake, but they will give me a local anesthetic. Has anyone else out there had this procedure done before? This "core" biopsy, I mean. I can't even picture it. They must have to raise the operating table pretty high to work underneath you. LOL. I am hoping for the best of course, but I also heard that 20-30 percent of these microclarifications turn out to be cancer. But it would be an early stage of it and very treatable. Any thoughts or experiences out there????
