Have you Ever????.....Jeez Just Shoot Me Now!- Akua Tuta

Hello Everyone,

Long time no see, Hope everyone is doing great! :p Feeling like a wilted houseplant, I have been down sick for about a month now & wanted to ask ya'll somthing & see what ya'll thought of my situation.

For almost two years now, I have been getting sinus infections which includes a sore throat, night sweats, vertigo, temporary blindness (visual distortoin), fevers, & lots of sinus complications. Before all this, I was relativly healthy, I hardly ever got sick & now, I can't stay without the sinus infection for more than a month. My recent infection appears to be Antibiotic resistent, I have already taken two courses of Antibiotics & thus I am still not feeling well & lemme tell ya, it's extremely depressing to be sick for over a month. My previous infection which I had less than two months ago, was resistent as well & it took two courses of Antibiotic.

I am starting to wonder if perhaps the reason for my continuous infections is because my tonsils are messed up. I have one tonsil that is Asymentrical, in other words instead of it being tucked back into the side of my throat, it hangs out right in the middle. This tonsil, more often than not, will have white spots on it & this has gone on for the entire duration of my repetative illness's.I have had problems in the past with a resistent infection, which ended with surgery. So this makes me wonder if perhaps my tonsils are somehow "holding the infection"

My flakey Dr keeps glancing in my throat, asking if I smoke & then dismissing the swelling & redness in there on smoking. My arguement is, I smoked for ten years before this started happening, with no problems. I have recently significantly cut down on my smoking & I have gotten sicker, plus, smokings bad but it doesn't cause distinct white spots & white spots are indicitive of infection.

I think when I go back to the Dr on Friday, I'm gonna get loud & make the Dr pay attention to the fact that there is a persistent infection that has been going on in my throat, which may be the root of the problem & the entire reason why my sinus's keep getting infected.

But my question to you guy's is...Have any of you ever had their tonsils out? What was the reason why they took them? Any advice?

Thanks for listening you guys, I appreciate the input!

Take Care!! Sara aka Akua Tuta

Date: 11/20/2003 10:39:00 AM  From Authorid: 58078    I would get sick every 3 months. Started with Tonsilitis, then a cold and then a bad cough that lasted at least 2 weeks. Every 3 months I went through this. I was diagnosed with Chronic Sinusitus finally after dealing with getting sick for about 2 years and eventually the antibiotics didn't work for me either. I went for cat scan and thats when I was told about the chronic sinusitis. I was put on meds for that and havent gotten sick in over a year. Actually a few days ago my sinuses were killing me and I was blowing my nose all day but it didn't last longer then that.
Date: 11/20/2003 10:56:00 AM  From Authorid: 18527    My husband suffered from persistant sinus infections for 2 years, he was antibiotics monthly till he had his tonsils out, never happened again. (He also quit smoking 3 years after having the tonsils out, but he never DID have another sinus infection)
Date: 11/20/2003 11:17:00 AM  From Authorid: 11341    My daughter started getting sinus infections at 2. She was complaining about headaches, and the doc sent her for x rays of her head when she was 3. He said it sounds like a sinus infection but he has never seen one in a child that young because their sinuses arent all the way developed. She has been having sinus infections for 2 years now. Now Im thinking (escpecially after reading the comments) that its from her tonsils, she has HUGE tonsils and they are looking at taking them out. I had mine out when I was 3 but that was due to numerous ear infections that I am still dealing with today. Im sorry your sick Akua, I hope you get it cleared up soon.
Date: 11/20/2003 11:30:00 AM  From Authorid: 62401    White spots on your tonsils signals Strep Throat... well that is always what i have always been told. I have my tonsils out when i was 16. I was a strep carrier and had strep 10-15 times during the winter. So they took them out and i got better... after the emergency surgery to repair my throat when the incisions bursted and started bleeding into my stomach, causing me to vomit blood. But after a week in the hospital and all the ice cream and snow cones i could eat, i am better... I haven't had strep throat since i had my tonsils out! I would go for having it removed, it is worth it! Lindsay
Date: 11/20/2003 12:23:00 PM  From Authorid: 25756    Nope, haven't had them out, but I hope all goes well if you do! :) And good luck with that doctor of yours!
Date: 11/20/2003 1:45:00 PM  From Authorid: 62367    Go see another doctor for a second opinion.
Date: 11/20/2003 3:22:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 12581    Ahh so I'm guessing that Infection is an indication of bad tonsils Hmmm I'm gonna get on my Dr's case tomorrow and Make her take note of my throat! Thanks everyone I really appreciate the input! Take Care!
Date: 11/20/2003 3:28:00 PM  From Authorid: 42945    my grandaughter had a sore throat continually, when you looked down her throat you could see the pus spots on her tonsils, she also continually had a nasal and sinus drip down the back of her throat all the time and poor kid complained of headaches on and off, they finally removed her tonsils after a couple of years of treating her constantly with antibiotics (which in the end, didnt do a dang thing to the infection)and she hasnt looked back....she can also breathe properly now....hope you get yours sorted out hun....hugs
Date: 11/20/2003 5:06:00 PM  From Authorid: 15228    It sounds like you need sinus surgery..not pleasant, but it has worked for everyone I know who has had it done. Ask for a catscan of your sinuses. That can determine whether they need to be cleaned out or not.
Date: 11/21/2003 10:57:00 PM  From Authorid: 28193    I had mine out years ago..when they took them out of kids, more often than they do now.. and also my adenoids. I think it was a matter of kids having strep throat back then. I have had horrible bouts of sinus problems. This may sound off the wall...but do you have any problems with your teeth? Are your teeth hurting, especially the upper ones? I have had root canals, that solved the sinus problem.
