Karen,I think they meant the friend was poked by a halloween wand that goes to a costume..are you saying your friend lost one of the twins? I think she could have lost the baby due to an infection in her body ,not by you poking her with a wand..maybe someone else can answer you better than me . |

i dont think she lost it due to the poke....i think more the fact that she still went trick or treatin when she was sick |

I am not a doctor, don't take my advice as medical. But it sounds like she is bitter and looking for someone to blame, because it is highly doubtful that a little poke from a halloween constume wand could cause a miscarriage. Sorry to hear about her losing one of the twins, but i think she is just very sad and depressed right now and needs someone to blame. Lindsay |

LMAO Karen :) Now that you pointed it out, it can be read that way.. hehe :) But on a serious note to the author, I by no means know for sure, but I dont believe that you could have caused her to miscarry just by poking her with a wand. I mean, that would have had to have been one heck of a poke. Plus, I agree with Lindsay, she may just be looking for someone to blame for it, and unfortunately she singled you out. It sounds like from what little you have written about it here, that maybe her body just rejected the unborn twin boy, and that could have also been the reason she was so sick too. The body does strange things like that, sometimes, and usually if its a natural miscarriage, it has to do with something wrong with the fetus. It's sad though that she lost the baby, and I send her my thoughts. But don't worry so much, because it is so highly unlikely that your wand caused it, hun. *huge hugs* |

LMAO @ Karen...wow....lol! Sorry, I'm not sure. I'm guesing probably not though. One poke? Most likely not unless it like, pierced the skin or something! Or unles it was right directly on the baby's head and was very forceful. I'm not really sure though. :-/ |

Panther's right, how did she know it was a boy she lost, if she was only 2-3 months pregnant? |

No I don't think that is possible. The "stomach" of a pregnant woman is different from someone that is not pregnant. It take more to, I guess you could say penetrate, it. Like a poke won't do anything... maybe if she was pushed and fell down the stairs she might lose it. It was probably from being so sick or complications or something. It is very bad to be sick while pregnant. How old is she? That could also have something to do with it. |

You didn't give us a lot of details to go on but off hand I would say 1) no a slight poke with a wand on her stomach would not induce miscarriage and 2) I don't think she's very nice for blaming you. Where did you poke her and how hard (what exactly went on?) Scall |

From what you've said, I very much doubt it. The baby will have been so tiny plus it's floating in amniotic fluid which is a very good cushion for the growing embryo. As she was so early in her pregnancy, what's lilkely to have happend is hormonal. The space left behind when an egg is released is called a Graafian follicle. This releases oestrogen and progesterone - basically a "primative placenta" to maintain the pregnancy until the real placenta is producing sufficient oestrogen and progesterone to continue the pregnancy. What will have happened is that the Graafian follicle collapsed prematurely thereby the decrease in these two hormones would not have allowed the pregnancy to continue. You did nothing wrong, so please don't feel guilty though you probably will anyway. Your friend is upset, naturally and you're her scapegoat. I'm very sorry for both your friend and you. |

No. The fever she had alone signifies that something had to have been wrong already, as a fever indicates a sign of infection in the body...(the fever isn't necessarily the bad part all the time, it just shows that the body is fighting infection). Also, if a man and woman can continue to make love during a pregnancy without any risk of harming the baby(s), then a costume prop is not going to cause any damage. I agree with what was said above, that most likely she is suffering from grief, depression, and loss. She is looking for someone or something to explain it, because the miscarriage probably can't be explained. One of the babies was probably just stronger than the other...or something, and that's why it survived the infection, or whatever happened. *Christine Hughes, Medical Assistant* (yes, I really DO have a degree as a medical office assistant and am trained for both front desk as well as clincal procedures...even though I do not currently work. no, i do not think that would cause it. i miscarried twins a year ago. i thought it was because i fell. the doctor assured me that wasn't the case. she told me that sometimes it is difficult for people to carry twins to term. there is no real reason as to why they miscarry, it just happens sometimes. i think your friend wants someone to blame for it. i know when it happened to me i felt terrible. i thought it was something i did and i didn't want to think that way. i kept thinking of what could have caused it. i wanted something to blame. but, to answer your question, no. it would take alot more than a poke to cause a miscarriage. |

you don't have to be a doctor to know that it would take a pretty traumatic blow to the stomach to cause a miscarriage. I think your friend is very upset and looking for someone to scapegoat. |

Thanks yall and I really appreitate it and my wishes are with me too. My friend and I are talking through right now. I told her the fever she had might have helped it but yet I'm not entirely at fault but I still believe I didn't do it. Once she sets her mind on it she keeps that in her head and thats that! |
