I was watching the Discovery Channel a few weeks ago and they were doing a special on a few blind boys. These boys were shown riding bicycles down a road like a normal child. Impressive. Now the science behind it. These boys have mastered the art of sonar, just like bats use to locate prey and maneuver. One boy, around 14 of age, emits high pitched clicking noises and has perfected the art of human sonar. To test him, the Discovery team brought him to a location and had him sit in a chair. They then asked him to describe the terrain and what was around him. He then made the clicking noises, turning around in his chair and then described everything near him perfectly. He said that there was a large tree behind him. Then he described the shape and height of an object made up by the Discovery team. The object was a thin metal pole with a circular plate-like object on top. He was able to identify it and even identified the microphone hanging above his head. This boy was obviously very gifted. He was able to "see" his surroundings. Biking was a breeze for the most gifted boy. The boy now teaches other blind people how to revise bat sonar to work for humans as well! I hope you found this article informative.....What do you think? -Zenn How it changed my life:This has given me a different view on how different people view the world around them.
