Shin-Splints (Dave/Fearfactor)

  Author:  28071  Category:(Household) Created:(11/20/2003 7:50:00 PM)

I started running recently, and being a tall young Abe Lincolnesque type of fellow, I have had trouble with shin splints. Now, they don't prevent me from running, just hurt like the dickens afterwards.

Does anyone have any recommendations on how to cope with these timely shin knockers..

Thanks, Dave/Fearfactor

Date: 11/20/2003 8:42:00 PM  From Authorid: 48129    There are a few things you could try...shoe inserts that absorb shock, calf/shin supports (which look like socks), or even taping, which is inexpensive but can be a pain, literally, lol.
Date: 11/20/2003 9:37:00 PM  From Authorid: 42945    I've suffered with them on and off for a long time hun...someone told me its because I dont warm up enough before power walking, and I can understand that being the age I am now, it probably wont get any better, but it always happened when I was younger as well...I've tried everything, and you are right, you can still work through it, its afterwards it hurts like heck!!! hope someone can help you with yours....cheers
Date: 11/21/2003 6:18:00 AM  From Authorid: 15228    I have a bone spur..I find really good tennis shoes help, also good everyday shoes are important. When it really hurts ibuprofene helps..I figure the same probably goes for shin-splints.
Date: 11/21/2003 7:14:00 AM  From Authorid: 58611    I have the same problem! The only thing I know to do is to stand in front of a curb on the side of a road, place the tip of your toes on the top of it and lean forward to try and stretch the muscle., Oh Yeah, start with your leg straight and then bend your knee. Those things are such a pain I would say do whatever you can to get rid of it!
Date: 11/21/2003 7:45:00 AM  From Authorid: 53558    I wish I could help you out, FearFactor, but I have never used them. Great big hugs. Take care.
