Wombats in Australia, move into the local Cemetary!!!!...............Zema

I heard on the local radio, that in a little country town over here named WYBONG, which is situated in the Hunter Valley, a family group of Wombats, which are Australian Marsupials that are renowned for digging and undermining buildings, foundations of homes etc, to make their own homes (burrows), have decided that the local cemetary looked like a very nice place to relocate their family, for their summer residence...

So, they moved in (I should say, dug in) next to the permanent residents who are currently interred there. Naturally, this horrified the local townspeople, and with a donation from the local Government, the authorities set about convincing our hairy nosed wombats, that this was not the done thing....

I might add, that these marsupials, can grow to quite a large size, and even though their young are so cute and look so loveable, they can cause so much damage with their very strong, and long claws...let's just say, that I wouldn't argue with one of them lol!!!

Luv and Peace....Zema

Date: 11/22/2003 9:03:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 42945    well Moonie, the council will dig down about 3 feet down with wire fencing, around the whole perimeter of the cemetary, upon placing the wire down that deep, they will then sprinkle NAPTHALENE FLAKES into the soil, and the wombats hate the smell of it, so hopefully it will work, but I imagine that they will keep a close eye on the whole programme to see that it does work, it should do though....thanks hun for your reply....hugs Grammy

Date: 11/23/2003 2:48:00 PM  From Authorid: 28946    I hope that thes wombats decide to move then. Are they vegetarians or meat eaters? Gross thoughts here in Indiana... Good post, Zema.
Date: 11/23/2003 7:42:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 42945    thanks Penny, they eat roots of shrubs and trees, leaves of certain plants and the grubs and insects under the ground, thats why they burrow down in the earth, I suppose they think that seeing that they have to burrow down for food, they might as well make it home for the family....gross thoughts just the same in a cemetary!!!! hugs
