Arrggghh! I'm so MAD! Stolen Christmas Gift Idea!

Grrr gotta vent this one out! :(

I have known for 2 months what I getting my 2 1/2 year old twin nieces for Christmas. Dorothy dresses and ruby slippers! Might sound like a strange choice I know - but they LOVE the Wizard of Oz! I got them obsessed with the movie - it's "our thing" and everyone in the family knows it. I was Dorothy for Halloween as well and I let them play around with my ruby slippers, my dress etc.

Well, here's why I'm mad. About a month ago their Grandmother (not my mother - but the fathers mother) went out and hired some lady to custom make them Dorothy dresses! AND she bought them ruby slippers along with the movie. We only recently found this out as she let it slip to my sister (the childrens mother).

To say the least my sister was scared to tell me. And yeah I'm MAD! I mean the girls LOVE The Wizard of Oz, it's all they talk about, so YEAH it's a good gift. Now I am 95% sure I mentioned to her on Halloween that I was going to buy them the dresses - though I know I didn't mention that it would be for Christmas - just that I wanted to buy them. But she says she asked to make sure nobody else was getting them for the girls - because she didn't think anyone else would get that for them! Turns out she only asked her son, and he had no idea that I was planning this...so he said no. She never asked my sister (and refuses to tell her what she HAS gotten the girls). My sister has told us in the past that she does underhanded things all the time and now I see what she means.

I am so frustrated! I don't have a lot of money here and when I got this idea it seemed PERFECT! I could get my nieces something they would love without breaking the bank. And along comes the grandmother (who can afford to get them WHATEVER she wants too) and she takes it from me!

Well I've decided that I won't return the dresses and will finish the ruby slippers for my nieces, even though mine won't be as nice in quality as hers! Some of the members of my family say I'm just being mean - that I should back off and let her just do this. Grrrrr! Personally I figure that it doesn't hurt for them to have 2 - that way they won't have to drag them from house to house!

Well, anyway, I feel slightly better after getting that out!

What would you guys do? Just drop it or what?

Date: 12/18/2003 11:17:00 PM  From Authorid: 53052    i would talk to her and say "hey look you can't go doing this" that and never tell her anything like that again... it's annoying it's frustrating and it's too late to do anything else... you can return the dresses and get something generic... but it's frustrating
Date: 12/18/2003 11:33:00 PM  From Authorid: 28946    I wish I could say something that would ease your heart over what is happening but I kind of feel sorry for the grandma as she must be desparate for the children to love her best for getting them special gifts that was your idea. I would try to act gracious and not let her know it bothers you that she stole your idea. You and your nieces will still have the special moments watching The Wizard Of Oz and nobody can take that away. The grandmother sounds more jealous than anything, don't you think?
Date: 12/19/2003  ( Admin )   Get them toto the puppy..
Date: 12/19/2003 12:50:00 AM  From Authorid: 42945    I'd just drop it hun, keep the outfits for when they are over with you....I know hun, you must disappointed but the girls will love having two outfits anyway....hugs
Date: 12/19/2003 12:50:00 AM  From Authorid: 50434    I agree with the admin. Talk to the mom of your niece and see if they could get a real dog...that looks like toto that would be awsome. As far as the dresses you got give it to them anyways, it would porlly mean more newayz seeing its your thing with them.
Date: 12/19/2003 2:52:00 AM  From Authorid: 33925    You know, from reading this, I REALLY dont think she went and bought them intentionally out of spite..I mean she DID ask her Son and he DID say noone was buying them that he knew of. Im sorry you are upset, but look at it this way. The twins are getting something that they are going to love. I would buy them some stuffed animals of the cowardly lion, tin man and scarecrow. Something like that. Just stick with the Wizard of Oz theme. Christmas is for them afterall, and the goal is for them to be happy.
Date: 12/19/2003 5:48:00 AM  From Authorid: 52746    My Mum used to have that problem with her sister. She'd tell her sister what she was buying us for Christmas and her sister would buy the same for her own kids. So, one year, Mum had two lists... the real one which she made no mention of and the "pretend" list which she told her sister about. That way, when her sister bought the same items of the "pretend" list, this ensured Mum and her sister didn't get their kids the same gifts! LOL.

Date: 12/19/2003 12:35:00 PM  From Authorid: 6915    Love the Wizard of Oz..woohoo! My favorite movie. My suggestion would be to get them the accessories...the basket, the lollypop, the toto dog. Or...let me think...I know they have many wizard of oz cookie boxes. You could fill them up with christmas cookies or better yet Wizard of Oz cookies. Also, there are little Wizard of Oz beanie babies. They might be pricy if uoi try and purchase the WHOLE set but it would be nice to start the collection for them. Hmmm...or mabe you could buy them the WOZ blanket. I have it, its beautiful and warm so they can snuggle with it. I have a ton of Wizard Of Oz things @ my house and I was Dorothy one year. I have a cairn terrier puppy too:0) He was my toto. MSG me if you'd like more ideas.
