Okay i know the title of my post sounds like a cheesy ad but i have to admit that The Golden Compas IS a must read!! The book, in my opinion, is better and more interesting than Harry Potter. It may be more difficult to read (even though the back says its 'so-called' reading level 6.5) than Harry Potter and a little harder to get (might take u a while lol took me a while at least) but it's a GREAT book. The book is written by Philip Pullman and the book is full of mysteries and really surprising events. I have to admit though, i didn't exactly like how it ended and i'd wish he made a second and third part of the book!!
What is this book about? Well, the story starts out in Jordon College. The setting is basically in Europe though. And a girl named Lyra and her daemon (you'll find out what it is), Pantailamon, start to discover different things she never knew existed when they sneak into the headmaster's coference room. Soon enough, Lyra finds herself in a dangerous adventure full of witches and gobblers (you'll find out what that is too lol) and polar bears. Most of all, she'll discover her true destiny.
This book is ADDICITVE. I swear i brought it along when i'm on the train, about to go to sleep (except i ended up sleeping an hour later cuz it was so interesting lol), to the bathroom, etc. lol So go try it out on the library or buy one at your bookstore cuz its THAT good lol.
