In the land where freedom blows, and unseen woes

Highly paid, the price of things

Within this land of loveless kiss

She found tendrils binding in bliss,

All made

Of ivy

Of this world of purchased love and flightless wing

There lived a turtle shell

Moving slowly in shielded dreams,

All because

Of ivy

With a kiss they bound her with cares

In French lace and tender bloom

The scented airs and beautiful wares

All entangled

With ivy

She dreamed the dream of bloodless need

Where vow and prince lay wasted

For the chains, they had her in the end

Their links all made

Of ivy

In this land she spilled her heart

Bruised and torn on rocky thorns

To see so much and to live

Among the sweat stained leaves

Of ivy

The princess fell into the spell

Sleeping into the waking dream

She bound her love In white cotton gloves

Craving the touch

Of ivy

The king he came,

To bring love and estrange

The vines that entangled her heart

With one last kiss she denied her bliss

Wishing instead

Of ivy

The crown of queen, lost to the dream

Her heart, to self, untrue

In the end she did not understand

The binding chain

Of ivy

The test was failed, in the night of wails

Of lost hearts and rainbow dreams

The crown falling down, shattered the realm

Leaving her only

The ivy

In her tower atop the funeral bower

Her hair too short to win back love

Who will grace or give her chase

When her heart lay bound

In ivy

The gilded cage, familiar in strange

Worlds crashed in rainbows To the ground

The tear once lived yet could not give

The strength to free

Of Ivy

But at the well she fell to the spell

The scents too strong and heady

Falling asleep in life so sweet

As vines embraced her

Of ivy

The struggle for life in endless

The dream became unseen

As life ever slowly Slipped away

Choked at last

In ivy

Date: 2/3/2004 8:43:00 AM  From Authorid: 62222    For some reason this reminded of the line from William Blake's poem the Garden of Love. You know that line "Binding with briars, my joys and desires.." Thank for sharing your vision with us.

Date: 2/3/2004 1:37:00 PM  From Authorid: 28946    *tears* Somehow this poem touches me as deep as Annabelle Lee by Edgar Allen Poe. It's sad and yet so beautiful and one of your best in my eyes. Thanks Pertnikoff for sharing this.
Date: 2/3/2004 1:46:00 PM  From Authorid: 28946    The Garden Of Love by William Blake: I went to the Garden of Love.
And saw what I never had seen:
A Chapel was built in the midst,
Where I used to play on the green.

And the gates of this chapel were shut,
And Thou shalt not, writ over the door;
So I turn'd to the Garden of Love,
That so many sweet flowers bore,

And I saw it was filled with graves,
And tomb-stones where flowers should be:
And Priests in black gowns, were walking their rounds,
And binding with briars my joys and desires.

... I can feel the same rhythm of the two poems and they are so deep. Awesome job Pert!
