Students, Parents & Teachers. Do you think that schools are doing their job?

Just wanted to know your opinion on you schools and teachers, if you think that they are doing the best they can or if they're just there for a paycheck. I know teachers are under a ton of pressure from the government but that's what your unions are for. There has to be a point where everybody just has to say whoa don't even go there. We let our government push us around WAY TO MUCH. We have to take control of our lives and get busy. Teachers if your one of the one that is doing their job I apologize. Parents please get off your butts and go vote. That is the only way to get control back. Students, tell about your experiences in school in this post.

Thank you, just had to vent.

Date: 2/10/2004 1:53:00 PM  From Authorid: 27534    Within each school.....each educator - regardless of the role they play is different. Example...training, years of experience, level of commitment. And to say that the job is not being done..... that would depend on the criteria.... Is that based on the proficency tests? If so....then factors to consider are the home environment on preschool preparation, abilities and commitment level of students, instruction by educators, and accountability.
Date: 2/10/2004 2:19:00 PM  From Authorid: 62367    I know one of the problems, I've seen is unequal funding of public schools. The well-off areas have very good schools but the poorest areas have terrible schools where the teachers even have to buy paper and pencils for their students out of their own pocket!
Date: 2/10/2004 2:28:00 PM  From Authorid: 27046    Periodot Cat, although I notice the same thing it has to do with the area and the people that live in those communities not the schools. We pay school taxes every year to help offset the budgets from what the state provides. If you have an area that is rundown, owned by slum lords every vote to raise the school taxes for the funding gets turned down by them the home owners, not the tenants.
Date: 2/10/2004 3:12:00 PM  From Authorid: 46527    I am a Teacher and I have to ask the question...are the parents of today doing their job?...'cos I know that I sure as heck am! Parents who do not back the school's discipline system are the bane of my life!
Date: 2/10/2004 3:45:00 PM  From Authorid: 8278    honestly, it depends on the teacher. my son has had teachers who really don't seem to care. but the school he is in now is great. the teachers are wonderful and they put everything into the class. he is in a special ed class. they are just great. it is the bus that i have problems with
