Depression...

whatever, depression. it sucks, i know. but are you depressed? really, seriously. are you really depressed? what, you went to some doctor and he told you you were? you saw a zoloft commercial? come on, doctors want your money. oh, but you're taking medicine? do you realize how much money people are making because your quack of a doctor decided he was going to put you on medication? think about it, how many times did you see a doctor before you got a prescription thrown at you? once, twice? three times at most? i'm talking about your psychiatrist, i don't care about your couselor or your social worker.

they want you to think you're depressed, they want you to be scared and hide in your house and not cause any trouble. it's like one huge brainwashing. the definition of depression is vague. being consistently sad for more than two weeks. well, you know what? yeah, people get sad for a billion reasons. your grandma died, your parents aren't the greatest, you had a friend kill herself. YOU'RE SUPPOSED TO BE SAD!! that's how you deal with stuff, that's how you learn.

having some doctor throw pills down your throat is only going to make it worse. you get dependent on them, you try to stop but that actually causes more problems... you're psychologically addicted.

and oh, you cut too... well, so do the majority of teens, it's a phase. you'll grow up, you'll deal with it. everyone's fascinated with the idea of self harm. it comes in many forms, relationships, cutting, anorexia, drugs and alcohol. those are all forms of self harm, and everyone does something to the extent.

you aren't going to kill yourself unless you let yourself, believe it or not you really have control. over a third of the teens in america are on some form of antidepressant/antipsychotic. doesn't that tell you something? the majority of those kids don't need that stuff. it's not like all of a sudden kids started getting clinically depressed like mad. conditions like that don't just pop up in two generations.

think about the facts. fifty years ago, hardly anyone killed themselves. yet, psychology was yet to be mainstream practice. all of a sudden, psychiatry shows up and people are killing themselves/getting depressed like crazy... people are so blind! Psychiatry is a PRIVATE PRACTICE, pharmaceutical companies are simply money making machines. they lie to you to make you buy their stuff, just like any other advertisement. getting put on a bunch of pills is just submitting to the powers at be. ADHD, Bi-Polar Disorder... these are fad disorders. they're a fashion, in twenty years it will be a new set of disorders that suddenly everyone has.

you know what ADHD generally is? it's apathy. you know what bi-polar disorder generally is? it's being a hormonal, confused teenager. sure, some people have real problems. some people couldn't live without those medications... but look within yourself and stop letting some sellout doctor steal your money. start thinking for yourself and determine whether you're going to kill yourself are not? do you really think you'd do it?

Date: 2/10/2004 6:51:00 PM  From Authorid: 8278    well, i find it hard to agree with all of this. although i do believe some people are on medication that don't need to be, others do need it. my son has ADHD, seizure disorder, behavioral problems, separation anxiety, tourettes syndrom, heart condition, and more. he is only 9. he has been seeing a psychiatrist for many years now. he takes three different medications. one for behavior, one for seizures and an antipsychiotic medication. and i can tell you, he is 100% different off the medications. he is violent, defiant, mean. he has broken bones on others, attacked teachers and jumped out of school windows...and that was just in kindergarden. for a while, i told the doctors i didn't want him on medication. i wanted to try and correct it without them. then he got kicked out of school and i knew he needed something.it breaks my heart that he has to take them, but he is dangerous without them. and he did suffer from depression for a while. when his father was arrested for a traffic violation, he was gone for a while. my son is very close to his father and was devastated. he wasn't some teenage kid saying "i'm soooo depressed". he was a little boy who doesn't even know the definition of depression. so, therefore, i have to say that i do believe some people need medication to help them get through life. i hope someday, my son won't need them. but, for now, there is no other choice.
Date: 2/10/2004 6:55:00 PM  From Authorid: 61893    Depression is real and a serious illness, I know.. I have suffered from it since the age of 5! Not only just depression.. I can't sleep no more than 2-3 hours a day, sometimes I feel like I am dying because my heart starts to beat out of my chest, can't breathe, sweat beads popping out all over me, close to blacking out.. this is called a "Panic attack." I have been dealing with all of this for many, many years.. just here lately have I gotten so desperate and scared that I seeked a doctors help. I do get your point, however some people suffer with this, and are not a FAKE out.
Date: 2/10/2004 6:59:00 PM  From Authorid: 8278    spoiledbabygurl, my son has the same problem. he will go many nights at a time where he will only sleep about 2 hours a night! i know how rough that can be. and i do agree, some doctors are very quick to hand out medication. i also found schools are quick to suggest it too. when my son was in pre-school the teachers kept saying "when are the doctors going to put him on meds?". it use to drive me crazy! I wanted to decide if he needed meds, not the school. he's in special ed now, and they are wonderful!
Date: 2/10/2004 7:02:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 3901    im not saying depression isnt a real problem.. im just saying think about the effect it has had on teenagers who have just started being diagnosed with it.. think about how their lives have been.. maybe they need someone to trust in over meds..
Date: 2/10/2004 11:23:00 PM  From Authorid: 62146    in this post you had a point where you said sometime your depressed if bad stuff happens like your grandma dies and your perents are not the greatest and your friend kills them selves yes I agrue you would kind get sad and up set so you don't need med it is normal. Depression is when you feel sad and upset for little or no reason at all but keep in mind soemtimes it takes stuff like that to happen like friend killing them selves probblem at home and your grandma dieing to trigure depression. but when you say all teenagers go though a phase of cutting them selves no that is not normal no way. it is normal to feel trapped sad and yes even lonely as a teenager but hating yourself and wanting to die is not. I have been depressed twice and need no meds to get over it but I have had a friend who got depressed and nothig was making her snap out of it she said it was triggured by probblem at school and everything was mkaing her upset all she had to do was say drop a fork or something and she would cry. So keep in mind in some cases you do need help in my case I just need to ditch my friends who were making me depressed (gossiping behind my back leaveing me out telling me I was worthless) and acctaully try to start loveing myslef. People wonder how I got over it when I disscribe how bad I felt myheart felt like it could not beat and I was breathing really heavily people egnored it and I tryed to get happy since I did not think anyone would want to help me out. I agrued with half of this it is not normal to be really depressed and sucidaul trust me it is not. Keep in mind my friend could be dead today if peopel considered it normal. And so could alot of teenagers.
Date: 2/11/2004 3:32:00 AM  From Authorid: 1799    depression is a very serious illness. i know from fact... the cutting, suicide attempts.. i've done it all, and its not something you can just pull yourself out of. My medicine actually works. If I didn't take it, the chemicals in me would keep me at my lowest, and I'd be dead now. yeah, maybe some people don't need the medicine, but some of us do.... i hate these kinds of opinions.. your welcome to it, but i see it as having a very narrow mind.
