I'm not doing Atkins I think.................B. Monkey

I was going to do Atkins, but I've decided against, and it's not because of the story down below. I just don't like all the high fat, meat, cheese, eggs aspect of it. Or if I do it, it will be highly modified. I just don't agree with some of it.

Last summer I lost 30 something pounds! And that was good ol' excercise and a diet that wasn't too hard core, it was sprinkled with a lot of readings from the book Sugarbusters. So I feel great, people were saying things because they noticed and then I ventured off into NO NO land. I can't blame this all on my boyfriend, but I think I ate fast food just about everynight.

But anyways I wanted to give a diet shoutout to a one Crooked Halo, thank you so much for all the tips you have given me so far I really appreciate it.

And for those still reading....PLEASE let's have a USM Diet section! I can't remember if it was me or Punkie friend but I think it will be a nice link for us to exchange tips. and the article below was off of www.msn.com

*************************************************************************** Diet guru Dr. Robert Atkins, who died last year after a fall in New York, had a history of heart disease and weighed 258 pounds at the time of his death, a newspaper reported Tuesday. Atkins' popular diet stresses people should eat high-protein meats and cheese over carbohydrates in order to lose weight.

Before his death, he had suffered a heart attack, congestive heart failure and hypertension, The Wall Street Journal reported, citing a report by the city medical examiner.

At 258 pounds, the 6-foot-tall Atkins would have qualified as obese, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s body-mass index calculator.

Atkins, 72, died last April after suffering a head injury in a fall on an icy city street.

Date: 2/10/2004 9:10:00 PM  From Authorid: 62552    GOOD! DON'T DO ATKINS! Doctor's say it's safe... there have been many MANY times that people have gone on the Atkins diet on doctor's supervision and they have just dropped dead because there's not enough carbs to keep your body going. Nutritionists say it's wrong so who would you prefer to take advice from... a doctor who actually sends you to a nutritionist to help you with diets, or a nutritionist in the first place. Protein (which is in fatty foods) is what you eat after you work out. You eat, go to the gym/go for a walk/work out whatever, and your body has used all the food it was given before and needs protein to give back what was used. If you are continually eating protein, there's nothing for your body to use up, so you're working on an empty stomach. I'm not saying that Atkins is awful full stop, because some people have lived through it. It's also lethal because your heart congests with all the fat in it. One guy in his early 20's my dad read about was caught just in time - he wanted to lose weight and gain muscle so he went on the Atkins diet but his body couldn't handle it anymore because there was no fat to burn. He was 22 at the time and needs constant hospital care because his body completely malfunctioned and now he's a vegetable because of it. I'm not trying to put anyone down that is currently on Atkins or is thinking about trying Atkins, it is just my personal opinion. >>Bageera<<

It would be cool to have a place where you could get support. :~D Hugs&Cookies

Date: 2/10/2004 9:34:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 57232    I wish I was a celebrity just so I can have somebody cook up the stuff for me that I need. Like a personal nutritionist or something.
Date: 2/10/2004 10:19:00 PM  From Authorid: 53427    Wow that was really interesting info there. I didn't know Dr.Atkins was 258lbs when he died. I'll have to show this article to my mom and my sister. But I doubt they'd stop the diet because they really like it and they are losing weight with it.
Date: 2/10/2004 10:53:00 PM  From Authorid: 51070    You shouldn't go on this diet. It is extremely dangerous. Check out this website: http://www.atkinsdietalert.org/
Date: 2/11/2004 8:23:00 AM  From Authorid: 1432    I lost 70 pounds on this diet.. and I'm still healthy as a horse **shrug**..
Date: 2/11/2004 8:24:00 AM  From Authorid: 1432    And I'm sure you can find a bad or negative site on EVERY DIET out there.. sooooo guess ya gotta choose what ya want..
Date: 2/11/2004 9:17:00 AM  From Authorid: 943    I'm on Atkins and have never felt better. Therefore, I agree with Banner. Sounds to me like Dr. Atkins fell off his own diet. Who doesn't from time to time?
Date: 2/11/2004 12:06:00 PM  From Authorid: 10344    Last night at Wal-Mart I noticed that in the grocerie isle's there were all kinds of new products marked with Atkins. All of these items were marked sky high. I just thimk it's given some of these food companies the oppertunity to bilk people out of more money by stamping Atkins on the box.
Date: 2/11/2004 2:03:00 PM  From Authorid: 53909    The longest that I was on the Atkin's Diet was a little over a week and I did lose some weight but I couldn't stand not being able to eat the starch that I wanted. I grew up on rice and it was hard not being able to eat it..LOL! I've heard good and bad about Atkin's diet but I won't ever go on it again. I'm on my own little diet that I made up...lol But I am still staying away from a lot of suger, breads (unless it's low carb), fried food..etc. 3fatchicks.com is a great site, I agree. I've also been working out at the gym...at least 45 mins a day... between 4-5 days a week......and YES!! There should be a diet section here in USM!! LOL!! How many times have we brought this up?? I'm still looking forward that section! :)
Date: 2/11/2004 5:22:00 PM  From Authorid: 20956    my dad went on atkins and lost 13 kg. he said he never felt better ... much more energy and stuff. but i guess its each to their own. i think it comes down to finding a diet that suits you and your lifestyle and then sticking to it. no diet is ever going to work if you are unable to do it ... :)
Date: 2/11/2004 10:34:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 57232    Yeah it is true, do what is best for you.
