Secondhand Lions (Starring Haley Joel Osment, Robert Duvall & Michael Caine)

If you've been searching for the perfect family movie but have found the choices slim, don't miss out on Secondhand Lions. This movie that covers events from 1914 through the present offers two fantastic stories in one and could not have been written better. Haley Joel plays a 12 year old boy who's mother's pursuit of love has overshadowed her abilities as a mother. She drops him off with her two uncles who are mysterious millionaires and until recently had been away for 40 years. Haley learns of their adventures and has a few of his own, but more importantly, he learns a leason in believing. My whole family gave this movie 12 thumbs up! That's five stars in the rating language! So check it out today!

Lost In Translation

As much as I love Bill Murray and Scarlet Johannson, this movie left me feeling like I had just wasted two hours of my life. Though visually stimulating moments such as Johannson's solo journeys through Tokyo, the lack of plot and dialog made for a long movie. I did enjoy Murray shooting the commercial and the Karaoke scene, however the meeting in the strip club left me less than thrilled. I feel like Sophia Coppola is riding her father's coat-tails with this Oscar nod. I hope Murray doesn't make a habit of making humorless indie films, it's not his forte. My husband and I give it two thumbs down. Please note this movie is Rated R.

Seabiscuit

Tobey McGuire became one of my favorites in a small film called Wonder Boys with Michael DOuglas, way before he wowed everyone else with Spiderman. Once again he shines in this wonderful true story about a wild horse and a wild jockey. This is a sweet story of victory and will leave you with a good feeling. Rent it for your family and you won't regret it! Four Stars.

Open Range

Kevin Costner came through with a true western for all to relish. From the gorgeous shots of America's beautiful landscapes or the truth in depicting the harsh realities of the time, my husband and I thoroughly enjoyed both Costner's quiet character and Robert Duvall's more open and humorous outlook of life on the range. Annette Benning definitely deserves mentioning for her role in the film. Five Stars.

It Runs In the Family

Let me just say this, you've got to see this movie, if only because it may be Kirk Douglas's last show. Kirk plays real-life son Michael Douglas's father. Michael's real-life son plays his son and his real-life mother plays his mother who is married to her real -life ex-husband Kirk Douglas in the movie. I give this movie four and a half stars.

Daddy Daycare

This Eddie Murphy film is off-the-hook funny, at least if you have a few rugrats running circles around you everyday like I do. The children were hilarious and the stunts and gags used to make us laugh were more than effective! Our entire family laughed so much we cracked the house's foundation ;) If you've got wee ones, check out this movie for some comedic relief! Four Stars!

Down With Love

Renee Zellwegger and Ewan McGregor dazzled me every minute of this artsy film. So colorful and silly, Renee's character wrote a book about the dangers of falling in love and promoted feminism for the first time in America. Ewan's character is out to get her to fall in love with him, proving her theory wrong, but she stays one step ahead of him at all times. I found this movie refreshing and though not thought provoking, I was always awaiting their next moves. Four and a half stars.

The Life of David Gale

I have very mixed feelings about this movie. For one, I live in the state it wasd basically attacking, and two I'm not into rape movies, whether fabricated or not...seeing a nekkid bruised dead body just doesn't do it for me. Kevin Spacey took on a heavy role as an activist for Deathwatch, an organization of activists against the Death Penalty, who ends up on death row for rape. Other notables in this film are Laura Linney and Kate Winslet. I think I would've appreciated the film more had it been a true story, but as it is a work of fiction, I couldn't feel anything other than uneasy after viewing it in it's entirety. One and a half stars.

Date: 2/10/2004 10:13:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 53836    Allow me one more review....Once Upon A Time In Mexico (Rater R due to Violence and Language) What lady doesn't swoon when Antonio Bandaris plays a mariachi? Anybody? I found this sequel to Bandaris and Selma Hyack's film Desperado, to be wildly entertaining. Joining the cast is Johnny Depp, who plays an eccentric spy for the US (I guess) who has decided to play a dangerous game of greed. There are many twists as well as moments of pure physical comedy. I give it Three and a half stars
Date: 2/10/2004 11:00:00 PM  From Authorid: 57232    sometimes you get more out of a movie if something in it personally affects you, I loved Lost in Translation! But it might be because I am me right now in my life. There was so much of me in Johanson's character it was character, even down to always walking around in my underwear. I know that sounds weird. It's strange the loneliness you can feel although you have a boyfriend. My favorite moments were the ones you mentioned as well as the karaoking.
