Attention all Computer geniuses! I need your help!

Starting today, I've been having problems with my computer. I can't open any of my folders containing documents. I have to keep restarting my computer if I want to open one. After opening one, I can not open another again. It's really bizarre and I'm wondering if there are any bugs or anything going around on the internet right now.

To anybody who is really skilled with computers, what would you suggest I do? I'm getting McAfee or Norton installed on my computer this weekend. I have Spybot and Spyhunter and my dad said that those two things are pieces of crap, so I'm going to delete them. Any ideas as to why I can't open up my document folders?

Also if you deleted a file with a Teddy Bear icon recentley then you boo boo'd. That was a file that helps open document files. Its all explained in this post. Good Luck. http://www.unsolvedmysteries.com/usm371889.html

Date: 2/12/2004 12:53:00 AM  From Authorid: 6867    do a system restore...i think it depends on what version of windows you are using. Go to START-->ALL PROGRAMS-->ACCESSORIES-->SYSTEM TOOLS-->SYSTEM RESTORE. Click on..RESTORE MY COMPUTER TO AN EARLIER TIME. It will show you a calendar. Think back to the last time everything was working correctly on your computer. Click on a bold numbered day around that time you remember and the rest is self explanatory. I suggest you not download anything that is FREE from the internet, this is a no no, no matter what anyone says. If it's free you are getting more than what you think. You will have to pay to get good software without spyware or viruses attached to it. ViRobot works well and is more affordable than Norton or McAffee. Plus it comes with a spyware detector, and another program called HackeSmacker that blocks popups and secures and shield all of your ports, no one will be able to hack your system, or send you anything that even LOOKS suspicious. My pc runs 10 times faster with it. It got rid of all the junk that was slowing my pcs performance down, plus it cleans up all the trash from previous uninstalls. If you can restore your system, I seriously suggest you get something like that for your pc, it is well worth the money. Cheaper than having to take it in and be worked on for 60 bucks an hour because some virus got to your hard disk and messed it up beyond recognition. Hope this helps. Try restoring first, if that doesn't work, might wanna check for my doom or something like that. Invest in a good anti virus program. Love yourself,
Date: 2/12/2004 4:05:00 AM  From Authorid: 62249    Not everything that is free is bad... There are a couple of good virus scans out there for free (although I do recommend Norton). But if it's problems your having with Adware or Spyware you can get Ad-Aware from www.lavasoft.ne and alternatly www.lavasoft.de (or on www.download.com - the stuff indexed there is usually legit.) And there's a great utility called Spybot: Search and Destroy, which is also free. Im not sure what the addresss for this is but if you search google it's on the first page. Again, not everything you download for free is bad, but keep in mind to watch what site you are downloading from, because if it looks like what you want to download is from a weird place, (like not download.com or planetmirror or any major fielserver) than there is a good chance you're taking a risk. - MC Bacon
