The group is anti-Greek establishment, anti-United States, anti-Turkey, anti-NATO. Stated Goal(s) Removal of US bases from Greece, removal of Turkish military presence from Cyprus, and the severing of Greek ties with NATO and the European Union (EU). Location: Athens, Greece Area of Operation: Greece Terrorist Acts: Assassinations of senior US officials Assassinations of Greek public figures 1980s - Misc. bombings 1990s - bombing and rocket attacks on EU facilities and foriegn investment firms Support: Obscure group has possible affiliation with other Greek terrorist groups Revolutionary People's Struggle (ELA) Region: Mediterranean Status: Active Established: 1971 Leader: Unknown Strength: Unknown History An extreme leftist group that developed out of the opposition to the military junta that ruled Greece from 1967 to 1974. Formed in 1971, the ELA is a self-described revolutionary, anti-capitalist, and anti-imperialist group. The ELA is strongly anti-United States. Stated Goal(s): Opposed to "imperialist domination, exploitation, and oppression." Seeks the removal of US military forces from Greece. Location: Greece Area of Operation: Greece Terrorist Acts: since 1974 - misc. bombings against Greek government and economic targets as well as US military and business facilities 1986 - intensification of attacks against Greek government and commercial targets 1991 - more than 20 bombings in cooperation with '1 May' Support: No known foreign sponsors. Direct contacts with other Greek terrorist groups, including 1 May and Revolutionary Solidarity. Greek police believe they have established a link between the ELA and the Revolutionary Organization 17 November.
