one of your friends might have a virus....if they have one it will circulate through their address book and send you a virus. |

Keep on deleting them, I have no idea how they get sent or who sents them. I just got a virus today on my computer. I had opened one of those emails with a error/user unknown and when I logged off for the night and signed back on today, Mcafee came up and said there was a virus that infected my computer and it cleaned it. |

Uh...well that's how viruses work...most people have virus scanners in their email so iit's hard for them to just 'forward' one on :) |

When you get those send them to "spam" instead of just delete. That way Yahoo can track them and stop them. They are working hard on getting control of them. |

Alos, what I have done is when I have an e-mail to send to more than one person, like a story I want to share, I send the original to myself (TO:) and then the rest all get send as a "blind copy" (Bc:) That way all their addresses are not shown for others to grab up and use for that purpose. It scares me when I see forwards with a ton of names on them. All it takes is for one e-mail to be sent from one person and to have it eventually end up in the wrong hands for it to be used wrong. |

Make sure you make back-up copies of you valuable files. I back-up my genealogy files every time I add to them, onto a disk. |

Paula is right on....whenever you can send everything BCC...I know there are several emails out there that automatically add the addresses to your address book...my outlook does that for some reason *growls..* |

*growls too...lol* Thank you Paula for all the information...I am just kinda shocked with the amount of these emails I have been getting...I mean like within a week 12 -15 of these emails were sent to me and they are all different. I haven't set up my address book yet but I am guessing that doesn't matter and if I am on someone else's it can be sent to me? And I am always hestitant about forwards because of the same reason.... I just dont know if someone intentionally is sending them or if it was random...*sigh* I am running virus scans now... I would feel terrible if something happened to this computer because it isn't mine and the person it belongs too put a lot of hard work into it... thank you all for all the information and help, it means a lot to me! |

That reminds me my virus defs are out by a week. Gotta keep them updated! But yes 90% of the time they are virusus or worse yet password stealers. if you can tell if they are from a friend of yours let them know that they have a bug and they should get rid of it and update thier virus protections. |

I have a free virus protection. It is called AVG or Grisoft. It can be downloaded free from: www.grisoft.com I have it scheduled to run every morning at 3 a.m. as I have DSL. It will update itself often with new updates needed to clean up and keep ahead of the viruses that are being born. I also get newsletters that warn of new ones that are surfacing and what to watch out for. One sign is the e-mails with various subject matters and attachments supposably from people you know. Since about Dec. It has been picking up viruses off and on. Really frustrating! Some people have way too much time on their hands! |
