I think it is... and it's like, people trying to get each other back for what the other's ancestors did, it'll never stop going on like this. - MC Bacon |

Since I personally had nothing to do with the past problems and prejudices of blacks being sold into slavery, women being treated as if they were men's property, prejudices against Jews or any other race, etc, then I refuse to accept the blame for what went on in the past. I can't change the past, but I can have hope in the future. |

I thought it was interesting when my daughter, a white, female, was given a four year scholarship in Alabama where she is considered a minority! Talk about turning the tables! |

yeah. its all really stupid. As for reparation repayments. I think that its a little too late, and well why should i pay for what other peoples ancestors did, mine were not even here then. We didnt come until 1899. |

I agree i think people need to focus on the problems of today and stop complaining so much about the past. If they put as much energy into fixing todays problems as they do about complaining about past problems we might actually get some where |

I don't know..it's a touchy subject..I mean, can a society EVER make up for the fact that its forefathers sailed into another country and viciously and forcibly removed the African people from their own land, brought them bound (hands and feet) in chains and shackles, feeding them JUST enough to remain alive (yet MANY did indeed die just to have their bodies thrown overboard), and then the survivors were sold to white people of privilege and forced to work for these people, and if they rebelled in any small way they were whipped, sometimes to the point of death, and treated like animals..then it took years and years of fighting for them to gain freedom..and even after gaining such they were treated awfully, segregated by white society, even lynched by hateful KKK members..I don't know..I think I would probably still hold resentment to a point. |

kylanthia has a point, but it is somewhat misinformed. The slave trade was started, not by white invaders, but by the tribes themselves. They forcably took slaves from other tribes and sold them onto third tribes for money. When the invaders came they expanded this, but quite often with the help of the more vicious tribes who knew the land and the hunting grounds of their neighbours. In answer to the question of the post, reverse discrimination is a backlash against the discrimination we have given to the peoples of the world. It won't die down for a few generations yet, until the last of those discriminated are around to spread what has happened to them |

There is a new school being built in my town. There was an article in the paper last night about choosing a name for the new school. The article stated that the school had to be named for a minority and that it wouldn't be named for a white male. Isn't that discrimination. If you substitute some other racial and/or gender into the about sentence, wouldn't the people making that criteria be accused of racism or sexism. Why is it politically correct to state that white males are unacceptable? |

Sure, that thing about the school in your town having to be named for a minority is discrimination..but is the money for the school being supplied by an individual or corporation..usually in the case where it is funded by a private donor, they will usually do whatever that person asks for in order to keep the project underway and the money coming in..within reason anyway. Unfortunately I don't think there's much that can be done in cases like that against the discrimination because they can't tell someone how to spend their money, and if the donor isn't happy..it's "bye-bye funds". |

"to be a white middle class male is to be in the worst position possible"???? oh come on, give me a break! As a white, middle class female, I do not see my male acquaintances suffering too much-- they all have college degrees, comfortable jobs, plenty of money to keep a roof over their head, food in their bellies, and plenty of money leftover for playtime, besides. If you want to talk about the worst position possible, lets look at someone in a third world country with a dozen children and hardly enough money to keep food on the table from one day to the next. |

Mollycat, white males ARE the minority. Your friends may have good jobs, lots of money and are doing just fine paying the bills. The difference is they had to work for every single thing that they have because none of it was handed to them "just because". There is little or no opportunities for white males to "get ahead" in this society the way the opportunities are laid out for women and minorities. White males are also the only group that are LEGALLY turned away for employment based soley on their race and gender, all for the betterment of the minorities and females. |

Let me continue to say that my comment does not mean that white males should start getting special treatment ( and that is the term that I prefer to use), I instead propose disposal of affirmative action. |
