To vote for one of tonight's contestants, dial 1-866-IDOLS- __ __ or text your vote into 57 __ __ ...yeh, you know it!

01 - Diana Degarmo - "A Broken Wing" - As Martina McBride is my hubby's favorite, Diana didn't fair well in our household tonight. We felt the performance was not her best, but at least her finish was stronger than her begining. Randy said it WAS her best performance and he was blown away, incredible. Paula said she couldn't picture Diana doing anything else, saying, "You'll be singing for a long time to come!" Simon said the image suited her and she performed effortlessly, but her nerves aren't allowing her to connect with the audience yet...and the audience booed...not suprising, as Simon's brutal honesty usually evokes the worst from a crowd of Americans.

02 - George Huff - "I Can Love You Like That" - Though he did a fine job, I felt he lacked the emotion demanded by the chorus of this particular song and (for this song) his voice was a bit too gravelly...needs to work on adding crescendos and decrescendos into the mix :) Randy said tonight he showed us the 'serious George' and he didn't feel the energy as in past performances. Paula said he has the Sexiest Voice Ever and Simon said he had that connection that he previously told Degarmo that she lacked with the audience.

03 - Fantasia Barrino - "Always On My Mind" - Everyone that knows me, knows Willie is my own American Idol, and I was very much pleased with Fantasia's rendition of one of my most favored Nelson classics. Her touch was like a caress, her emotion knowing of the emotion needed to make this song gold!! She only enhanced Willie's song as she more than served it to us with justice! Randy said she was controlled and unbelievably great! Paula said the performance was subtle, subdued and very classy, and Simon said odd things like, "You've proven you aren't a one trick pony" & "Don't get old" referring to her more conservative look for the evening.

04 - John Stevens - "King of the Road" - Another of my all time favorite songs and right up to the end where he realized the song wasn't ending, and there was more to be sung, this young, handsome, twinkle-eyed crooner nailed it, giving us a treat with his best, most conifident perfomrnace to date! Bravo and way to go kiddo!! Keep it up! He's gonna be the next Red-headed Stranger ;) Randy said he enjoyed John for the first time, even though he forgot some of the words. Paula said he covered the classic very nicely and he's becoming more seasoned with each performance. Simon said, "I think you're great!" And then went on to say he's the worst dancer ever on the American Idol series and he needs to learn to exude his personality.

05 - Camille Velasco - "Desparado" - Folks, this may be the last we see of this Somolian sweetheart, at least on this season's AI. That wasn't a natural vibrato, but the product of her nerves physically shaking her so bad that her voice couldn't even hide how nervous she was. She attempted to take an Eagles song and add her touch, but she only succeeded to show me (at least) that she needs more time, unlike some of her competition. Randy said it felt jerky, just aiight. Paula said she did a great job and is beautiful (maybe she was just building her up a bit before Simon was coming...I'm still thinking about sending Paula a box of Q-tips...what do you think?!) Simon said she was out of tune and she has yet to conquer her nerves.

06 - Jennifer Hudson - "No One Else On Earth" - I can officially say she has been consistantly unconsistant. Parts of this performance were solid, if not impressive, but they fell inbetween moments of vocal insecurity...or overembellishing, LOL I don't even know anymore. All I know was this was not my favorite Jennifer performance...I still preferred her first offering of S&G. Randy said he was worried at first, but she broke into it at the end. Paula said she loved her straight hair, but Jennifer needs to get her personality back. And Simon said she was 'out of her depth' in this competition. oooooooh, I wonder what that means, LOL...

BTW, my hubby just loved the "Simon Who?" sign that an audience member held up right behind Cowell's head from time to time.

07 - Jon Peter Lewis - "She Believes In Me" - Stop rocking this boat!!! I swear, between the seesaww I ride with Jennifer and this crazy shipwreck of a voyage I've begun with Jon, I am beginning to get a little sea sick. Tonight Jon chose the wrong song and the wrong feel for his talents. He more than sold himself short, but I doubt few girls even noticed, as he was busy hynotizing them with his sparkly blues. I believe he will slide by on his shoddy performance tonight on looks alone! Go figure *shrugs* Randy said without his funk he isn't vocally as good, he was pitchy and his game wasn't on. Paula said it was safe but pleasant, and he tended to go a bit flat. Simon said he has an odd voice, but it seems America loves him. He then said that Jon looks like John boy from The Waltons...a bunch of teenaged chicks were like, "Who's John Boy?" LMBO!

08 - Jasmine Trias - "Breathe" - Another amateur performance for a less than thrilling evening for the finalists. I guess these guys just don't appreciate country, eh? I felt she was trying to hard, was too nervous, and at time barely audible. Randy said she looked beautiful, but it wasn't her best performance, and was pitchy in places. Paula agreed, and so did Simon, but added that it was a very safe choice and too sweet. Yeah, we figured Simon liked girls like Courtney Love ;) :P

09 - Matt Rogers - "Amazed" - Though I've never been incredibly impressed with Matt, I gotta hand it to him tonight for offering up a fantastic cover of a great Lonestar song! I feel this was his best performance to date and he almost delivered it flawlessly. Vocally, he still has room to grow, but he has a personality of gold...like a teddy bear :) Randy said, "I liked that, man! That was one of your better vocals." Paula said it was sensitive and intimate, you crooned, and I liked that! Simon said, "I do like you, you are a fun and nice guy, BUT it was nauseating--a sell out!" Simon's so mean ;)

10 - LaToya London - "Ain't Goin' Down 'Til the Sun COmes Up" - Wasn't it nice to see ol' Josh again? Glad to hear he's almost done with his service...a little curious to hear his new song...I didn't think he was All That-last year, did you? Anyhow, LaToya lit the stage on fire and impressed the judges a lil' more than she did me. I felt she chose a challenging song and did aiight, as Randy is known for saying. Randy, however said, "Anouther fantastic performance!" Paula said it was the most fun performance of the evening. And Simon told everyone, "That's what I was waiting for! You took a risk and it worked!"

11 - Amy Adams - "Sin Wagon" - I was waiting to hear what country song she would make sound "Celinish", but she blew me away with her confident and flawless performance of the Dixie Chick's scandelous (In the Bible Belt) hit!! She was my favorite for the night along with Fantasia and John Stevens! Randy said it was her style of music and "Incredible!" Paula told her that she could release that cut tomorrow and it would go up the charts to number 1. Simon, who confessed to hating country, didn't understand the song and simply told Amy that he hadn't a clue of what to say!

So what do you have to say about the country theme and the darn 2 hour length of the show, LOL Shout it out girls, I missed you guys talkin' it up last week!!

Date: 3/23/2004 7:55:00 PM  From Authorid: 9130    I have to say, Amy Adams shocked me. She should be on Nashville Star instead of American Idol. She did an awesome job, and normally I am not a fan of hers. Country is totally what she should be singing!!!
Date: 3/23/2004 7:56:00 PM  From Authorid: 9130    Jon Peter Lewis annoys me. I don't see why they keep saying he could go far... and I also don't understand what they are talking about concerning his looks. He is NOT a good looking guy.
Date: 3/23/2004 8:01:00 PM  From Authorid: 3688    I gotta go wiht my boy Matt, love him to death, and Amy of course I think they were the two best lol
Date: 3/23/2004 8:12:00 PM  From Authorid: 6867    I am not an Amy Adams fan....but she was on point tonight. My eyes were glued to the t.v. while she was performing. I was extremely entertained. I honestly enjoyed La Toya's performance...I think mainly because it was a welcome change of pace from all the sloooow drab songs everyone was singing. AAAAAAAwww John Stevens...my son and I started doing the Randy "yeeaahh, yeeaaah" when John started singing, I thought the song fit his voice well. I wish I could axe 3 ppl tomorrow night...John Peter Lewis, Jennifer Hudson, and I am sorry, but my homegirl Camille Velasco. I love her, but she has 0 personality onstage. George was aaiight, I was extremely dissapointed in his song selection. Fantasia..what a classy lady she was tonight:) Matt Rodgers...no comment...actually I wish he would have never made it past the initial auditions. For him and JPL...Good looks do not equal talent. JMO. Oh, and Diana, well, I just was not feeling her at all tonight. IMO she over sings everything. Did I forget anyone? Jasmine....I have no comment on her either...she has never done it for me. It was weird to see Josh again....but, I think his music career will flourish since he is going strictly country. Pop music wasn't his thang last season. :) Love yourself,
Date: 3/23/2004 8:18:00 PM  From Authorid: 29387    Thanks for the detailed update - I missed it tonight, but I'm glad you posted. Thanks!
Date: 3/23/2004 8:21:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 53836    Dizzy Me, I guess not everyone likes the same kinda guy and thank goodness, LOL Gia, ITA with everything you said...and Amy was on fire, glad to see you guys thought so too :)

Date: 3/23/2004 8:56:00 PM  From Authorid: 40350    Woot! Go Amy Adams! If not her, then I'm rooting for Jasmine...
Date: 3/23/2004 9:30:00 PM  From Authorid: 9130    I have to agree with most everything Gia said!
Date: 3/23/2004 9:45:00 PM  From Authorid: 62585    I thought Amy was the best tonight, i was very suprised with her version of sin wagon. but my favorite is Diana, i want her to win.
Date: 3/23/2004 10:07:00 PM  From Authorid: 57232    LaToya! She's my new favorite! It was Diane DeGarmo and Matt is awfully fruity isn't he! Jon Peter...ahhh don't care for his singing at all.
Date: 3/24/2004 12:06:00 AM  From Authorid: 11341    I missed Diana and George singing tonight so I cant comment there. I still can not stand Fantasia!!! Its not that she cant sing, but the sound of her voice drivces me mad, sad thing is I think she will win. John Stevens is a dolly! Even forgetting the words he did awesome. Camille ugh she was horrible tonight. I thought her voice "could" have been wonderful for that song but she blew it. Jennifer, I was actually glad to see her do a song like that, but I dont think she has much long on the show, tonight she was just ok. I personaly like JPL I dont however think he sang well tonight. Jasmine...good golly miss molly...ugh she was terrible tonight, def. the worst of the night. Matt, tonight was the best Ive seen him, makes me think there might be something to look forward to. I will give LaToya some serious props for the song she chose tonight, not only is it a rough song but she sang it well. Amy Amy Amy I can not believe how well she sang tonight! She was my #1 for tonight followed by John Stevens then LaToya/Matt. Worst was Jasmine followed by Camille then Jennifer/JPL. Thanks again for the wonderful posts SpaceCase!
Date: 3/24/2004 1:42:00 AM  From Authorid: 25390    Fantasia and Amy Adams were my two favorites, followed by John Stevens. I am so sick of John Peter that I actually turned the channel when he came on. What is he doing there? The boy CAN NOT SING!! Not to mention his questionable dancing abilities. *gag* As a fan of the Eagles, I was very disappointed at Camille's performance. Matt is okay, but I think he's mostly up there because of the girl factor...the football eye candy. I get so sick of him mentioning every 2 minutes that he played football in college and was in the Rose Bowl. Anyway, thanks for another great recap!
Date: 3/24/2004 5:21:00 AM  From Authorid: 6867    oooh no kiiidding,^^^^ Rosebowl this and Rosebowl that. YUCK! I know the Rosebowl is a big deal, but MATT...get ova it alreeaady! lol.
Date: 3/24/2004 5:38:00 AM  From Authorid: 3648    Well I really don't care for Fantasia myself....LaToya did well last night...John Stevens I do like him and I think he'll make it to the last 3.....Amy was the best last night in my opinion she wowed me, she was in her element...I do think Matt needs to get over the Rose Bowl factor....I think Camille could do a lot better....Jasmine, I really like her but I felt last night she wasn't at her best maybe country isn't her bag?...
Date: 3/24/2004 5:54:00 AM  From Authorid: 28190    It had to be such a hard night on some of them because when ya have a pop style voice its hard to do country. I know because I have a country style voice and when I sing pop it sounds so bad.. lmao... But to the post. My faves last night were definitely Amy Adams, LaToya, Fantasia, John and Diana. I do Not in the slightest understand why Jon Peter Lewis is still there. I agree with Dizzy there, he is not good looking at all. And hasnt been consistant either. But he isnt alone with the consistancy problems, thats for sure. lol.. Camille, omg, I dont know exactly if it was the nerves or what, but she was mumbling the words in desperado and totally made me cringe the whole time. Jennifer, Although I have liked her other performances, I have to say she chose a very very bad song. She sang it all out of whack, and it totally didnt sit right with me. George, I agree with you totally on, he lacked the emotion in this song. Jasmine, she did an okay job, that is an extremely hard song to sing, and it was a bad choice and the nerves could be seen through the performance. It was almost like in parts, that she was super temid or something. I actually liked Matt tonight too, I liked the spin he put on Amazed, but I also agree with Oddity, that the Rose bowl stuff has got to go. Its getting on my ever lasting last nerve. lol.. Amy Was By Far my favorite tonight, and yep country suits her so well. Diana, did a great job too, Im a big Martina fan too, and when she was singing, I got goosebumps. Latoya, took a big risk and I enjoyed it, definitely added to last nights performances. And John, he is so adoreable. Picked the perfect song for his voice and personality and honestly I thought he forgot the words, but would have never been 100% sure if the judges hadn't had said something. lol.. He pulled it off.. Man, its gonna be hard this year to pick a best, because between a few of them, the gold is already there. Great post SC. Sorry if I left anyone out and that I didnt reply last night, I have been so sick that getting off the couch requires almost an act from God. lol. *huge hugs*
Date: 3/24/2004 5:55:00 AM  From Authorid: 28190    Oh and I also agree that Camille is probably going home tonight.. Either her or Jennifer.. kinda a toss up.. We shall see. :) *Hugs*
Date: 3/24/2004 6:52:00 AM  From Authorid: 11097    Okay here are the performances I liked :)... I liked Diana, it was something different and she has a beautiful voice, especially for 16 years old! I like Camille, there is just something about her I like a lot but I think she needs to let go of her fears, once she can do that I really think she has something great under it all. I like Jennifer, I think she has a very good voice and I liked her performance last night. Matt (sung a song I love!) I think he was awesome last night. And Amy I enjoyed, she was perfect. I also like LaToya.... and.... I love... Jon Peter Lewis.. :D
Date: 3/24/2004 7:14:00 AM  From Authorid: 15228    Amy Adams did an excellent job though I admit I didn't really understand the song either...I really liked how London did the Garth Brooks song--high energy, moving around in the very fast tempo song can't be easy not to lose one's breath...I really enjoyed Stevens, his voice is very smooth, but he doesn't have much of a personality that shines through and he really CAN'T dance..I could see him on broadway.
Date: 3/24/2004 8:47:00 AM  From Authorid: 25390    Amanda, you are so right about switching genres like that. My voice is classical and ballad with a little bit of country. But if you gave me a pop song to do, I would sound terrible.
Date: 3/24/2004 10:56:00 AM  From Authorid: 13729    I think that Camille Valesco or John Stevens should be voted off.....She sounded terrible and he forgot the words to his song!!....I thought Amy Adams was by far the best singer on this episode......
Date: 3/24/2004 4:20:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 53836    Wow! I go to bed early and look what happens, LOL!! I know what you mean Amanda, as I sing the blues, gospel and country way better than say rock or pop, though I will sing anything, LOL I figured the majority weren't pop fans...and can hardly understand why country is even one of their themes...there are so many rock-influenced themes they could focus on that's closer to the pop star they are looking for. Especially since Simon hates country, you know!
Date: 3/25/2004 9:25:00 AM  From Authorid: 11097    I feel terrible Matt left... :( I dont think he deserved to leave...
Date: 3/25/2004 8:30:00 PM  From Authorid: 9130    I AM SO GLAD Matt got kicked off!!!! Woohoo! It's going in the right order so far-- Leah Labelle and Matt were the worst two.
