Just stumbled upon an interesting bit of info in the 2004 Almanac. Thought this was a good place to share. We all know a group of cows is called a herd, and a group of lions is a pride. Here are some names for "animal collectives" that you may not know:
Alligators: congregation Ants: army Apes: shrewdness "A shrewdness of apes gathered in the jungle." Badgers: cete Bats: colony Bears: sleuth Bees: swarm birds: flight boars/swine: sounder butterflies: flutter "a flutter of butterflies flittered about" buzzards: wake camels: train cats: clowder or clutter chicks: brood or clutch clams/oysters: bed cockroaches: intrusion crocodiles: bask crows: murder eagles: convocation elks: gang finches: charm fish: school flamingos: stand foxes: skulk frogs: army gnats: horde goats: tribe or trip gorillas: band jellyfish: smack kangaroos: mob larks: exaltation leopards: leap ravens: unkindness rhinos: crash sharks: shiver squirrels: scurry tigers: streak toads: knot turtles: bale vultures: committee woodchuck: fall woodpeckers: descent
Anybody have any more? How it changed my life:I'll never look at a committee at work anymore without giggling.
