Daelian put her head down, feeling more exhausted than before. Korick sat down in the chair next to the bed, deep in thought. She looked at him for a moment, seeing the determination in his blue eyes. They hadn't talked about the kiss since it had happened. Instead, they went right into planning.
"So, what do we do then?" Korick asked, breaking the silence.
"Stock up on food and weapons, potions if we need them," she replied, looking at the ceiling. "Then we rest up and get ready to go to the next town. We need as many people as possible. Or at least as many supplies as we can get. It won't be an easy task."
"Do you think we'll succeed before the Great Mother is gone?" Korick frowned.
"I hope so," Daelian turned to him. "But we can't worry too much about that yet. We have to stay focused."
"Right," Korick nodded his head.
The sun rising the next morning woke Daelian from her sleep, pulling her out of a dream she didn't want to leave. She had been dreaming about those moments in the church and all that had happened. She frowned slightly, annoyed at the sunlight for waking her up, but soon cheered up when she realized it meant that he was actually there.
She looked up in shock as a staff hit the ground in front of her. She stared at it for a moment, looking at the dark wood and the crystal held on top. Korick bent down and picked it up, holding it steady in his strong hands.
"It's a magic staff," he said, noticing her look of curiousity. "We can't use any other weapons. It's this huge taboo about drawing blood and being too cruel. So we use staffs and our magic. I must warn you though, my main use is for healing."
"That's fine," She pushed the covers up and got out of bed. "Healing is something we'll probably need. Besides, there are many other clans that have great fighters."
Daelian threw a cloak around herself and looked at Korick. "You sure you want to come?"
"I'm positive," Korick nodded his head. "Besides, I'm not going to let you go off alone. I'm not the type to stay back and worry."
Daelian smiled and grabbed one of the bags, motioning to Korick that it was time to leave. People watched in wonder as the two walked down the street with the bags that held food and weapons. Daelian could hear whispers coming from the people, wondering what they were off to do.
Korick got in front of her and motioned to the gate keeper, Lokee. They spoke for a moment while Daelian stood behind them, her brown hair flowing in the wind. She watched as Lokee gave a worried look, asking Korick if he was positive. Korick nodded his head and the entire town watched on as the gates opened for them.
The doors closed behind them after a moment. Daelian looked back to see people looking at them from holes in the wall. She turned and shook her head, finding it funny that they would be so interested. No one gave a second look in the Guild of the Faye when she left.
"So where to?" Korick stopped, looking over the barren wasteland.
"My guild is over that way," Daelian pointed toward the west. "So, we have three other directions to choose from. Why not try going north and see where that takes us?"
"The forest is over that way," Korick narrowed his eyes as he looked into the distance. "But there is a clan over there somewhere. They're close to the forest. I think they're a clan of fighters, exactly what we need."
She nodded and they began toward their next destination. Thoughts ran through Daelian's mind, thoughts that hadn't hit her before. Were they going to survive? Would anyone join them? When it was just her, she hadn't really worried much, but now she was.
She sighed, realizing this was going to be a long and difficult journey.
