Korick let out a groan as he fell to the ground, his body too tired to go on anymore. "Daelian, we've been running around like this all day. Aren't you just a little bit tired?"
He turned to see Daelian in a small form, her Faye wings out, sitting on his shoulder. "No, of course not, because I've just become your horse."
"Okay, we can stop," Daelian looked around. "You can rest, I'll keep an eye out."
She flew down from his shoulder and landed on the ground, growing back to her normal size. Korick stared at her wings as they fluttered a bit, amazed by how beautiful they were. Daelian was looking back the way they had come. The forest lay right next to them, the dark menacing as they leaned over as if to grab them. She frowned and brought her wings back in, finally noticing that Korick was staring.
"Something wrong?" she asked, her voice flat.
"No," Korick push the bag to his side, sitting down on the cold ground. "I've just never seen Faye wings before. Since the Shadows came, we haven't had many visitors, and I never traveled to that clan. So, this is the first time I've seen it in person."
She sat down next to him, suddenly feeling tired. She put her head down on her knees, just wanting to be somewhere safe where they could rest and talk.
Please, you just want to be alone with him, she thought to herself. Alone to talk and perhaps kiss... What is wrong with me?
She looked up when she felt his arm around her shoulders. He pulled her close, pulling his cloak over her. "You'll catch cold if you just sit there like that."
"I never muched worried about being ill," Daelian looked at him. "But I thank you."
She put her head on his shoulder, beginning to nod off. Korick's body jolting woke her from her light sleep after a few minutes, the feeling of fear in the air. She got up and looked around, trying to figure out what was going on.
Korick frowned. "I heard some movement near the trees. With the Shadows out here, I'm not sure how much sleep would be good for us."
Daelian knelt down and pulled a weapon from one of the bags, the small short sword comforting in her hand. "Show your self!"
Korick picked up his staff, the crystal beginning to glow lightly. Daelian took a few steps forward, her sword beginning to feel heavy as her fear grew. She got up close to one of the trees, looking around for a moment before letting out a cry and cutting into one of the bushes. She grabbed a piece of cloth and Korick watched as she pulled a man from the bushes, slamming him into the tree.
"For god's sake, girl!" the man yelled. "You really need to try those Heilig seeds I told you about. They'll do wonders for that homicidal problem of yours."
"What are you doing here?" Daelian asked, not letting go of him. She lifted the sword to his neck, staring at him intently.
"I was on this magical journey to find bunnies when I heard noises," the guy replied, his voice and face both lifting. "And I heard movement, and I thought maybe the Lord of all bunnies was here. But, alas, no. It was just you... And a guy?"
Daelian pulled the guy by his neck and sent him sprawling onto the ground, putting her sword away. "You're attempt at humor isn't all that funny, Quaron."
"Bunnies?" Korick rose an eyebrow.
"Bunnies excite me," Quaron grinned as he got up.
"Ignore him," Daelian frowned. "He likes being a jerk to people. His mother obviously dropped him on his head a few too many times when he was little."
"Is that any way to talk to your brother's best friend?" Quaron put his arm around Daelian, grinning.
Daelian pushed his arm away and turned to him. "Are you crazy being out here?"
"I could ask you the same question," Quaron's face suddenly became serious. He stared intently at her for a moment before grinning again and walking up to Korick. "But I'll just ask about this fine specimen here. I must say, when did you start getting interested in the male kind?"
Korick gave a confused look at Daelian as Quaron began to sniff at his clothing. "Is he psycho?"
"Something like that," she replied flatly.
"A priest! Very strange," Quaron backed away, a look of wonder on his face. "I'm intrigued. Why is this guy following you around? Or is it the other way around?"
Daelian put the sword in her belt, frowning at Quaron. "I'm trying to find anyone who will help me get rid of the Shadows."
"You're really serious about that?" Quaron asked, suddenly becoming serious. "You just want to die like your brother?"
"I won't die," Daelian sat down on the ground. "Korick here can help a lot with healing. We're looking for fighters now."
Quaron turned his head, hearing a noise come from the bushes. He frowned as he pointed to a Shadow appearing behind Daelian. "Well here's your chance to find out just true that is!"
